Elite Veteran Posts: 911 Location: Durango CO	I sent my colt to a reined cowhorse trainer for 60 days. Now that I have her back I'm disappointed in how she turned out. She tucks her head to her chest and if you ask for her nose she will tuck into her shoulder. Just stiff through the ribs. What specific arena work would you do to help her be more like a cutter and barrel horse and less reining horse? We ride a lot out in BLM land and in a huge 40 acre field and trail ride so i am not looking for that type of exercise.

Elite Veteran Posts: 966 Location: Loco,Ok	I get those here.They bridled up won't go. Don't stop them much. I put them on cattle. Drive cattle. Breakaway round the pen. Take the stop out of horse. Then add it back.slow. It can take a while. Last one 4 months to get done. He was so.bridle up. Chin hit.his chest get stiff. Would not go. Kicked stopped and kick.to.back. Had few here over last couple of years. Give them a job a target to go to and don't pull.

Defense Attorney for The Horse Location: Claremore, OK	For a horse that'd behind the bit you need to use very light contact on the reins and drive him forward with your legs. Sometimes it can be a lot of work. Is it possible you're not releasing him when he gives to you ? He's probably light enough that as soon as you pick up the reins he's gives his face. Do you ride with a loose rein ?

He sounds pretty broke, I imagine you ride totally different than the trainer and you aren't using the same buttons to ask the horse. I would take a reiner trained horse over a cutter, they were always the stiff sided ones to me.

Too Skinny Posts: 8009 Location: LA Lower Alabama	I would suggest getting some lessons and riding him the way you want him while keeping in mind that he will be confused and you wouldnt want to send one off to a reiner again. Amberley Snyder does wheel chair wednesdays and has mentioned that she asks how she can and waits for the horse to respond the way she wants it to. I am sure her horses were confused as all get out at first but she just spent the time with them to help them understand she cant use her legs.
