Hey guys! I've been MIA lately, but now I have an off topic question because I have zero knowledge of this. OTTBs- where do you find them? What are the biggest things to look for? When I started riding I learned to ride english first- dressage and HUS. I want to get back into it but I don't have many contacts in OK, AR, and MO. Any help?

If you don't have any local contacts I would see if there are OTTB organizations that restart them in your area. In my area there are a few and people are always giving them away or nearly giving them away.

Our friends used to get them from a guy in Fort Worth that would restart them and sell them as greenbroke.

That is a perfect idea! I have been looking and trying to get in contact with a couple trainers but haven't had a ton of lucky just yet. I will keep looking!

Thank you flit! I found one in MO and on new OKC. Does anyone have anything to specifically look out for with OTTB's?

Depends on how much they ran etc.. A large number of them are not racing anymore for a REASON.

I think there is a site by state
(quite a few in the mid-section of the country
) called 'CANTER'. I haven't looked in years, but they had all ages and various stages of training. Some did have injuries or long term issues, but a lot were nice and just green or race broke. You can probably Google the organization....or even Google retired TB race horses to find other organizations.

I have checked the website but didn't see any in OK. They have a heartland chapter that does a few states together. OK is one. So far I have talked to two places around OKC

This is a facebook group that finds new owners for OTTB. We got one from here and he will never be a barrel racer....just has no desire to run. But, the lady was great to deal with and honest. The horse we got from her is the sweetest TB ever. Here's the link to her page.

Our local track has an organization that lists horses for sale for trainers.

maybe check and see if the tracks around you have something similar?

I am not looking for a barrel prospect. Hunter under saddle and lower level dressage.

Racehorse2Sporthorse on fb has a lot of OTTB. They seem to be very honest and many have found success.
I also use
http://www.equibase.com/
to learn more about them.

Sent you one back! I have been checking names online and watching videos of them run, Bloodhorse is another good resource. Does anyone have any experience with thoroughbred athletes or horse and hound rescue in Guthrie?
