I have what i thought was a "headshaker" so we just ran her through 2 days of deep dive examinations to determine why she shakes her head.  We scoped her ears, nose, throat and stomach.  She has mild ulcers.  Everthing I read says Gastrogard (any advice on the cheapest place to purchase?), 1 tube a day for 30 days.  $$$ but i'll do it.  Does any one have experience with a bleeder and ulcers?  Any chance the ulcers are contributing to the bleeding (from stress)
Also,  what do people use if they need to give a "bute/banamine" type product?  I was told previcox isnt nearly as effective and you have to give it for several days to really work like a bute.

My mare is a bleeder and has ulcers. Equisure has been the best thing I found for her, as well as cur ost total and adapt and calm. After chatting with a good friend about bleeders when my mare first started -- I am a firm believer that stress is a HUGE contributor to bleeding, yes!
I have her on previcox daily through the season. As per my vet's instructions, we start her on a full pill a day for 7 days and then gradually go down to a 1/4 pill. I notice a change usually in the first week. She has never needed to maintain on more than a 1/4 pill.
Not sure if any of that information helps...

ETA - From my own experiences, bute is not good for a horse with ulcers. Previcox is one of the only pain medications that does not have an adverse affect on their tummies. I've also found that it works well. Just my own experience.

The stomach is the highway to all things in both humans and horses. If you have a healthy stomach the rest of your body will follow. Stress plays a huge factor in our performance horses, they were not created to live the lifestyle that we lead. 90% of all horses have some varying degree of ulcers because of the way we feed. When a horse is stressing they produced an excess amount of acid which drops the stomach pH. I am a huge believer in Equi-sure. It neutrailzes the acid in the stomach and raises the pH to a level that the stomach can start healing itself with out block the absorbtion of the vitamins and minerals that they need. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have just send me a message. :)

I have a bleeder with ulcers and being on MVP products have done wonders for him. The Exceed 6-Way has gastric and blood/vascualr support, as well as other benefits. It has eliminated my need for omeprazole for the ulcers, improved my gate issues, and has made my horse run harder. I backed off my lasix dosage and haven't had any signs of bleeding. I battled both for years with no relief on this horse until I tried the Exceed 6-Way and Gastro-Plex. My horse gets ulcers all the way into his larynx so I felt he would benefit from the extra digestive support. Its a great combination supplement and my horse loves it. These products won't cure the ulcers, but they can prevent them once a treatment is done. When I started my horse on them I gave him a 2 week regimen of an omeprazole I get compounded by my local vet that is mixed with Ranitidine. I've never needed more than 2 weeks and it's only $5 a dose. Maybe ask a vet if they can get something similar? I use banamine injections of I ever need to manage soreness/pain and it is injected IV so no concern for his stomach that way. If you do treat for ulcers with omeprazole you'll need to do it often possibly. Once they get off the omeprazole their digestive system goes into overdrive from being repressed, and that overdrive can often produce ulcers. This happened to me, I treated and scoped clear and then a week later they were back and I hadn't ridden or hauled anywhere to create stress. This is why the digestive support in these products are so beneficial, as I haven't had ulcers since I started using them. I loved the results I've gotten so much that I became an Ambassador for MVP. If you or anyone is interested in Exceed 6-Way, Gastro-Plex or In-Sync please message me and I can send the introductory information :)
