I've been put on bed rest until baby #2 is born and I figured I'd buy myself a new informational barrel racing book; the few I have are slightly outdated lol. What are your recommendations on informational barrel racing books out there? The newest one I know of is Martha Josey's, released 2015.

there are two fairly new books by Jesse Mead- Fine Tuning Barrel Horses and Starting Barrel Horses. They both have a lot of information. Heather Smith has some out also. Sharon Camarillo has one- The A.R.T. of Barrel Racing.
Marlene Eddleman has Barrelracing 101.

We tried, got one but Amazon canceled or order because it wasn't as advertised. We finally got one through Martha Wright

Heather also has a new one "the 51 First Exercises for Barrel Racing Success" which has some good drills and work-outs for both horse and rider. This is what I read when expecting my baby. Once born I got out there and tried them on my colt
(and myself.

Tina Spangler TLC has a drill book I've seen mentioned on her FB. She posts a few videos and they really make sense and remind me of Paul Humphrey's method a bit. Of course I hope to host a Paul Humphrey clinic soon but him and Ed's method are not similar to me. With Ed you tend to ride higher up the horse's neck but Paul's keeps you more centered and the work isn't done on the pattern. Ed's work was all on the patten or doing various circles. Paul breaks everything down into more steps.

This is not a barrel racing book but a good book for basics. THE SCHOOLING OF THE WESTERN HORSE by JR Young. You can buy it off Amazon for cheap. Not new by any means but good solid information.

I too, am a fan of "Barrel racing the Wright way" by Martha Wright. A lot of good information especially about the importance of a good foundation and she really goes into detail.
Charmayne James on barrel racing is a good book too. A LOT of detailed information, I had to read it a few times in order to really get everything out of it and occasionally I still look it over!
Lastly, its not a barrel racing book but John Lyons Horsemanship book was just an amazing read! Has a lot of good information for setting a firm foundation, and also working WITH the horse using their natural instincts.
