Location: Cocoa, Florida | So I had been having some chest pain/discomfort, indigestion, acid reflux so I went to my primary just to get a check up because I had heart issues as a child and it worried me. Well anyway, turns out my EKG came up abnormal in the PR interval area and there could possibly be a blockage. I had an EKG in 2013 and she saw significant changes so she was concerned. She wants me to see a cardiologist asap but my benefits don't start until the end of February since I enrolled late. So my question is does anyone know if this is something that can wait a month and should I not ride or do anything strenuous in the mean time? I don't really have all the answers I need right now and I'm a little upset about it all. I have both copies of my EKG but I don't know how to read them.
I would have thought if she thought it was serious enough she would have sent me to the hospital right away.
She did tell me if I get anymore chest pain to go to ER right away

Location: OH. IO | im sorry this is happening to you. I know the fear you must be feeling as I am having some serious issues myself and im scared to death.I would say she should have set you up for a catherization asap, but if you asked to wait for insurance i can sure understand that.If it were me I would not do anything that would possibly cause harm, put yourself first. No one can really tell you what to do,but i can say be very careful, and start getting your appointments scheduled for the day after you get insurance if thats what you are gonna do.sometimes it takes awhile to get an appointment so get on that now. Keep us updated and sending prayers and hugs for you. |

Location: Nebraska | Did she say what your PR interval was doing? Is it just long or does it progressively get longer? There are different degrees of heart blocks. I would honestly call the cardiologist and see what they tell you. |

She didn't really tell me she just said she sees something that has already happened an old injury. I have the copies of my ekg from 2013 and mine from today I can send them to you if that helps! |

If she told you to set up an appointment with a cardiologist I'd call them and see when you can get in. Sometimes it's a ways out so it'd be better to get on the books for as early in Feb as possible. You could also ask them to review the Drs notes and EKG and see if they think it is something serious that needs seen ASAP. best wishes! I'll be keeping you in my orayers. You too Jake16 |

Location: Arkansas | I have a friend that is up to 9 stents---it just absolutely makes me sick for her. She is the sweetest person and would do anything for you-- I tell her i pray nightly for her big, giving heart. She is a cutter, and when she felt like it she would ride, but she says she knows at this point when things are going wrong and that's when she just doesn't feel like going to practice or ride at a show. I agree to go ahead and get scheduled for your tests, etc. Sending prayers your way, and of course, Jake you are in my daily prayers already |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Based entirely on what you wrote, it sounds like you have two issues, which may not be related.
The first, and most concerning to me is the episodes of chest pain. Without knowing anything more, I think you should not delay seeing a Cardiologist. It sounds like you at least need a stress test, depending on the Cardiologist's taking your history and risk factors into account.
The abnormalities of the "PR interval", particularly if they are of concern to your doctor, makes me wonder about a condition called "WPW Syndrome" (Wolf-Parkinson-White), which is characterized, among other things, by a short PR interval. People with WPW are prone to certain forms of tachycardia, some of which can be serious or life threatening. A cardiologist can determine if you fall into a category of patients who are at risk of life threatening tachycardia.
The good news, if you are deemed to be at risk, is that this can be cured by a procedure called "radio frequency catheter ablation" which is designed to interrupt the abnormal conduction pathway that can cause these tachycardia episodes.
Bottom line: don't take any chances. Don't do a poll of readers on the Internet. At least see the cardiologist and let him decide if it's risky to wait 4-5 weeks. |
