I was reading the other worming thread and got to thinking. The daily wormers were really popular here few years ago, and had all these programs where you would get them from the vet and you would have some colic care coverage etc.. THen people started saying why would you poison your horse every day. LOl WHat is the latest word?? I am thinking about using a daily on my new colt just for a month or so since I don't have his complete worming history. Thanks!

I do that coming into spring... just for 30 days after I tube worm them. Not sure I'd keep them on it year round. I've never had an issue doing this, they really seem to bloom when shedding out..

I tried one when we were trying to figure out what was going on with my horse a few years ago and got a no no from my vet.  Why poison daily was exactly the question I got.

I do a power pack once every year usually around spring. Its 5 days of wormer (given to me by my vet), then I will wait about a month or two and do my normal worming rotation, every 2 months. I use a worming rotation chart it shows which wormers to use in each month.

Thanks a bunch. He was wormed with Ivermectin in January. I might do a power pack or just follow up with another dose of the one that takes care of tape worms etc. Thanks all!

I have been feeding daily dewormers since 1990, I paste twice a year.  Every year fecals came back clean. UNTIL I got a new vet 2 years ago who told me I was poisoning my horses and only worm when you have too.  She said probably one of my horses has built up an imuminity or something like that. So of course I take them all right off of it.  That was June, I paste in December after 1st frost than April had fecals done. ALL THE HORSES CAME BACK full of parasites! I had to do a deworming program with the vet (not the same one) and than I put them back on the daily. Fingers crossed ALL horses fecals have been clean since. I am not changing. It works for my horses.
