| Need some advice on what to do with a horse who wont eat on the road. I slowly changed his feed over to RG, Oats and maybe a solo cup of feed.. conpared to 12lbs of grain. He of course started acting uclery, hence the change in the first place. So he just finished a 20 day supply of ucler gaurd the day before i left to go out of town to rodeos.
He ate his dinner the night before, but the following morning didnt touch none of it. Hes always kinda been this way, but i was told "no such thing as pick eaters" He had free choice hay, which he ate plently of. so i just figured he wasnt hungry for grain?? he had 4 hours before i pulled him out of his stall to take to the trailer.
Any advice? He ran great, placed at both rodeos and didnt not seem like his normal self. He drank PLENTLY of fresh water through out the entire trip. Had hay in front of him trailer, tied, and stalled. Alfalfa. At one point tied to the trailer, my hauling partner gave her horse costal and my gelding was eating out of his bag rather than his own alfalfa. which i thought was kinda weird? but i brushed it off thinking he just wanted whatever the other horse had.
edit to add... He's been eating fine at home no problems! i do have to say he looks GREAT! he never looked bad before but more dull coat than i like but i really noticed the other day he blossomed! Not sure if it was the RG or the ucler meds that did it but we'll see!

| I use Equi-Sure every day I haul, every horse. It does wonders. I have some small bottles on hand if you want to give it a try! |

| I've always figured I have days where I'm not terribly hungry or don't eat etc. especially when it's hot or I'm stressed, traveling, etc
Hay and water have always been my biggies. I don't worry too much if they are content munching hay and drinking water, not acting stressed or upset. I've never had one stop eating hay, but when the water consumption goes down I get worried. I've used Oxygen's Jailbreak and also Equi-Sure with good results to get them drinking again and often then they've eaten their concentrate.
I would say if all else felt normal and he returned to normal at home, not to worry, but maybe carry something on hand like Jailbreak or Equi-Sure.

| We have actually had a couple like that. We started catching them at home every feeding and tying them to the trailer to eat grain so that when we hauled anywhere that was already a habit. We tried several times to feed in the stall and they would not eat but take them to the trailer and they cleaned up their grain. You might try this it worked for us thank goodness we currently have horses that will eat anywhere at any time. |

Location: Deep South | I would keep a tube of UG handy and give him a dose for each day that I'm away from home, sounds like he responded well to it. Ulcers can reappear so quickly.

I agree. Coming off the UG the day before you hauled is my opinion as to why he was acting differently. I would start on a preventative and keep UG on hand if he responded well to it. Without a preventative to help him his ulcers will continue to flare and come back. |

He got a dose both mornings before we left, and the following morning before our first run. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | THE Equine Edge has a newer product called GI Support. It's also 20% off this month. Great to give them for ulcer prevention, stressful situations etc. |
