Ok folks so I tried a template on my gelding and it says he needs a 8" gullet. What do y'all think back conformation wise what you would try on him?

Caldwell's are nice but SPENDY.  I like my old Double J (similar version in today's model is a Double J Pro.  Call Charlie at Double J and talk to him, they make both regular and wide fit - gullet won't matter as much as the bar angles.  Good luck.

I have 2 Caldwell's and love them.  I have a new horse that they don't fit and I don't want to wait a year to have one built.  I am deciding now between a Vernon Purdy and a Roohide.

I bet the Cactus CJ would work, worth a try anyways.

Bar angle will make a bigger difference than gullet. My heel horse is half again as broad as he is (might be a slight exaggeration, but seriously he's wide and flat). Our rope saddles are 6.5" gullets. My little barrel horse is also pretty broad and my saddle for him is a 7" gullet.

I think you've got some good places to start with the Cactus CJ, Dbl J and Caldwell. Martins also tend to be on the flatter side, but the axis trees are a different type of fit so I recommend visiting with a fitted on those.

Well today was productive! We ruled out Marlene Mccrae Cactus, Charmayne James by Cactus and found that the crown C fit ok but the FX3 so far has been the best most even fit on him. Everything else we tried bridged. Does anyone know the difference in the trees in the FX3 and Crown C?
