My almost 3 year old colt has had about 20 rides, and he is so lazy! I have heard of the saying stuck feet are bucking feet. And that happened yesterday. I got on and after moving his hind end over both side I went to walk off and he planted his feet and starts crow hopping and it lead to bucking. I have an over and under that I have used in the past just trying to get him forward and it doesn't even phase him, I could give him a good pop and he doesn't care. it exhausting trying to get him to move. do I go back to the round pen and have someone flag me on him or.. Any info would be appreciated.

Do you ride with spurs? When I get the guy to break my youngsters, I tell him to ride with spurs.

Had.several like this. Give them a job. Keep riding them 20 rides isn't a lot of time. I put a calf in pen and track drive cattle. I had them bucket some. Most not much. Like most of them tired is good. Very few would give any problems in round pen with you on the ground. Got get on and go. They dispute what people think. They know when you're not on them. That becomes a crutch. They do something wrong you get off. Got to pen. Chase them a while. Get back on and for a while it is fine. Then it becomes a habit to get you off. Put more miles in. From experience.

We called it sulling up when I was younger. Not sure how its spelled but its when they decide they dont want to. If he didnt "spook" buck then your horse has chosen to let you know he just doesnt want to. If you dont ride him through it you will have a problem but its not something I can descride how to do without being there and seeing it. There is a button you pushed and he decided NO but without seeing your current progress I would assume there is a hole in the training somewhere. Can you get some help from a trainer?

is there someone that can ride another horse with you for him to follow?  You just need to teach him what moving means and I wouldn't want to go to whipping when he is still learning.................just like a good whoa sometimes with different colts takes more time

If you're able to, start ponying him. A lot. Once he's leading along and all 4 feet are following without resistance, he'll free up a bunch. After you pony him for a while, ride alongside with a friend who's on a good horse. Most importantly, be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day.
