I would like to set up a patience pole - it will be set in concrete.  I was initially thinking about putting it in the middle of my roundpen but hubby thinks I should put it somewhere else because it would be permanent and may get in the way.  Does anyone have one in their roundpen and do you find it gets in your way when working a horse?

You haven't lived until you've gotten unloaded straight into a patience post...

Outside the roundpen, you may get a really bad headache one day or a split skull when riding a young one if in the roundpen..

Put it outside of the pen.. it WILL get in your way and solid objects like that hurt when you're thrown into them.

We set ours right up against the roundpen wall on the outside, that way we could use it inside or outside of the roundpen and they couldn't wind the lead around it.

I have 2 telephone poles set outside my round pen with a cable stretched between them (very high and across the round pen). I dropped a rope from the center of the cable to tie horses to in the round pen. I can tie horses in the middle of the pen, but nothing is solid to get in the way of riding. The rope actually runs up one pole, across the cable and then down - it is adjustable for height and I can release a horse without getting in danger if there is a problem. I love tying this way because there is no wall/fence/pole to get in trouble with.

Great idea, I need to remember this for the future... Any chance of a picture of this? So I can keep a copy on my phone??
