Chandler got finned yesterday afternoon by a hybrid catfish. For some reason, regular catfish don't bother him, but when he gets finned by a hybrid, it affects him pretty badly. Lula Bell drove him here and his hand (finned three times between thumb and first finger on his right hand--one broke off in there) was swelling and turning purplish. He REFUSED to go ER, and it was too deep for us to get out. We doused him with peroxide after washing it with antibacterial soap. I told him if I had any salt meat that I'd wrap his hand up with that on the finned place. Lula said something about abscesses on horse hooves. . . . And I remembered I had some draw salve, soooooo we slathered him down with it and then vet wrapped his hand---we did that cause Lula said she had always wanted to do that to him!!! I worried all night that he would end up in ER with infection and I'd get arrested for child endangerment

Well, today his hand is normal and you can't see the fin!!!! (He couldn't use the hand yesterday at all.) We're gonna keep watching it closely of course, but I told him I always knew he was a jack, I mean part horse

Never a dull moment out here. . .

LOL about being half horse, poor Chandler getting stuck by a catfish hurts like he** I know how that feels had that done when I was a kido..I remember all the swelling man that hurts..My dad got stuck once in the thigh, he was bringing one into the boat and it floped off the hook and landed upside down on his thigh and stuck him good, we were on on my great Uncle's ranch so no Doctors close by so my Aunt just treated him at the Ranch, but a few days later the pain was pretty pain he ended up getting blood poisoning, so keep a close eye on Chandlers hand.. Hope he keeps feeling better.

I'm watching it closely. I can't believe how it's looking----can barely see where it was.

My momma has a similar story to your daddy's. She pulled a catfish in the boat and it came off the hook and the fin broke off in her thigh. She said she was ok and they finished fishing. . . Well, by the next day her leg was a mess--she ended up having to have surgery so they could cut it out. My family and fish fins. . . . .

And people say running barrels is dangerous.  This is why I never liked to fish.  I have seen this happen enought I just sit and watch.

Dang!  Kudos to Lula for wanting to wrap him up like an abcess!  Sounds like it may have just worked.

I looked at it tonight, and I'm amazed---can't even tell where he was finned!!! I'm gonna keep that salve in the human medicine cabinet too!
