Location: The best kept secret in TX | I am looking into paying someone to get my horse fine tuned for me. They would be driving to my house (8 miles one way), I tack, they ride, I cool down/untack, etc. What is a good rate to pay someone to ride your horse per ride? Would you pay less if you could meet them at an arena halfway between both your houses for them to ride your horse there?
This person charges per month to ride outside horses and would be riding mine in the evenings after they ride their horses they have in for customers. He doesn't think he will need a full month with my horse and wants to instead cahrge me per ride. He said he isn't sure how many rides he will need but doesn't think he needs much. They are at local shows every weekend showing client horses/ consign horses, etc. This person has an extensive resume with many large shows won under their belt. They are a friend and offered to help me fine tune him up for the summer. This person has extensive reining, cutting, hunter under saddle, jumping, western pleasure, ranch versatility, and dressage experience and awards. They would be fine tuning my horse for me, not working barrels at all.
Thanks guys. | |

45-50? I know he isn't giving you a lesson on your horse, but that is about the going rate for lessons from knowledgeable professionals around here...

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Thanks guys. Gives me a place to start. I am by no means calling him a professional but if my horse was as fancy and broke as his horses he has on consignment I would pay $45-$50 per ride lol

| I get $20 a ride, and the horses live down the street from me. I had a trainer refer me to an older couple looking for someone to tune on their horses, he said I charged $50 per ride and the people happily paid that even though they were only 10 miles down the road. I would really only expect to get $20-30 per ride..I've done it for $15 as well for horses that don't really need much work, just some exercise. | |
