Here I thought I was going to make it a whole year without buying a barrel saddle! Silly silly me.

My FQHB Triple Creek is too wide for my racey bred gelding. the general shape is good and I can make it work with a shim under the front, but I'd rather just find something that works (plus it's a 14 and I much prefer my 14.5 TC that I ride my other gelding in).

Of course when I was looking for my FQHB saddles all I could find were SQHB. Now all I can find is FQHB! Go figure.

I think Pro Riders are built on the same trees? I see a lot of different fit options on their website though and I'm not sure which 2 TC uses.

Any other mid-price range ($1000 or under used is the budget I've set) saddles I should be looking for that would fit like a SQHB TC or Pro Rider?

If you're needing a SQHB TC, and you want to stay under $1,000 why don't you order a Silver Series from TC? They run $920

Corriente saddles! The fit more like a pro rider in my personal experience and seem to fit a wide variety of horses.

Would rather not wait for one to be made, but if I don't find any in the next few weeks or another brand that will work I may very well go that route. The only thing I have to ride him in right now that fits is a slicker than snot rope saddle, does not work very well on a rollback and slingshot style turn...

I'm torn on them. My fiancΓ© has won several as trophy rope saddles and sold them as quick as he could for whatever he could get out of them, he was not at all impressed with them.

My concern with buying anything but the TC is whether or not it'll fit, which is really why I don't want to buy new and rather find something used.

I hope once this weekend is over (getting married!) I can run around to some friends places and try some different saddles on him.

The newer style barrel saddles have great resale value from what I've seen. People are really liking this new design they are doing and all of the different options. Just something to think about :

Congrats on your big day coming up!

Thanks!

If I can get my hands on one to try on him and look over I'd possibly consider it. I'm really trying to avoid having to order new and tying up money while I wait on a saddle only to have it not fit. Been there done that lost money and time.

Pro Riders don't have the same tree, but it is very similar. The trees are made by the same company, to each brand's individual specifications. I had an older SQHB Pro Rider that I used on my racy gelding. Love love loved that saddle, but I retired the gelding and needed a FQHB saddle for my tank of a mare. I saved to buy a new saddle and looked into the new Pro Riders and, although prettier and "fancier" than the TC, they don't seem to have nearly the quality leather and weight the TC does and their prices have gotten very high compared to TC as well, JMHO. So, I went with the TC. I was quoted 10-12 weeks but got mine in 8. Hope this helps!

That does help with regard to the trees and quality, thanks!

I'm sorry but I completely disagree. I bought a new corriente last year and I didn't care for it honestly when I compared it to my triple creek. On my TC I feel like I'm riding my horse but in the corriente it felt like I was riding the saddle; catch my drift? My feet kept in getting swing back on the corriente and on my TC I can place them anywhere. I wouldn't mind trying their new style or even a cutting saddle from them, but not without trying it first.
