| My Circle Y Tammy Fischer(wide) is making white hairs along both sides of my geldings spine. About right under where I sit and about 4 inches long. There is also a sore on his withers where the pads/saddle have rubbed. I bought this horse in January and he was thin with no muscle on him. At first my saddle was too wide on the front but now that he has been filling out it has been fitting pretty well. He has high withers and then dips right behind/below them, he also has a ridge down the lower part of his spine where it sticks out. I have used Saddleright, CSI and Ortho-Equine pads on him and currently the CSI fits the best. I'm not sure if I need a different saddle or just different pads? The saddle is 4 years old and in good condition. Any suggestions? |

| I would say that is a saddle fit issue. |

Location: Texas | Sounds like too much pressure causing the nerves to become damaged. Got pictures? |

Location: Oklahoma | Not the type of back for a treeless ime, I prefer them for the sausage types. That being said I would switch to a 1" min pure wool pad w a cutaway withers and spine relief . I don't think CSI is suitable for treeless they are designed for trees bar pressure and a treeless pressure is along spine and across withers .
I have 2 horses w thin backs, shark fins , I have to use 1" pads w them but my low withered round one has to have thin. Btw more protein improves the top line not more fat as most believe. |

| Yes the white hairs started just recently with the CSI pad. I don't? have any pictures of it. He is getting enough protein, just in the process of filling out and building topline. |

I really dont think it's a saddle issue then, I think you have to much pad and I know the CSI's are a stiffer and thicker pad, I tryed one under my BM just for grins one day and did not like the feel of it at all, with a treeless I like to be able to feel my horse underneath me but with the CSI I felt like a was sitting on a fence, and I didnt like how hot it got underneath the pad too. I use my 5 star with my treeless. And with the CSI pad my saddle didnt form to my horses back like it should had.. |

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | I have a FQH and I ride in a Tammy wide, I was using a 7/8" 5 star and it was leaving white hairs on her shoulders and she would get upset just to saddle. I switched to a Reinsman pad, like $85 new, and it's 3/4" and has a cut back in it for wither relief and it's a night and day difference and in my mare when I saddle. It sounds like you have a pad issue instead of a saddle fit issue. You may wanna try a thinner pad. |

| I think I will try a different pad. My CSI has the 1/2 inch liner so it is pretty thin. |
