Location: Texas hill country | So I've had my horses hocks injected before.
But what does everybody do for therapy afterwards?
PHT, BOT, etc.. And do you wait 24 hours not wait etc ..
And if you use PHT,BOT do you notice a shortend amount of time before you put them back to work? |

| I stay off mine for 3 days then back to work but mine don't get worked too hard. My trainer does work them hard and does the same. This is as per our equine vet. |

Location: North Dakota | Bute/Equioxx for about 3-4 days post injection. No riding until the 3 or 4th day, depending on the horse. I don't stall mine, I kick them out to pasture. I don't do any therapies you mention because I feel the bute/equioxx will take care of any injection "pain" that is associated with them and the steroid takes care of the inflammation in the joint. Why would you need PHT or BOT directly after? |

Location: MO | Mine gets off for 3 days, and then back to work, but I usually take it easy for a copuple of days and then back to 'full force'. I also do Previcox for 5 days.
My vet didn't recommend therapy other than ice if I felt like it. He really doesn't like magnets for a while after injections. He said that a certain amount of puffiness happens and he wants the injections to really 'work' before doing all other kinds of therapy that make circualtion higher. |

Laser and magnets increase Circulation. You want to make sure the injections have time to work |

Thank you for responding. That was the kind of answer I was looking for. That makes total sense. I had just never heard that but I also hadn't ever done laser or PHT after injections either so maybe that's why. Thanks again. |

Location: Wild Wild West | My vet recommended, when I started running her again to put BOT boots on her for a few hours before I ran and then ice boots when I was done. I bought the EquiCoolDown Instant cooling leg wrap, which you just have to wet, not put in ice, and they are wonderful. |

| If you read on the BOT packaging it says not to use after injection for a few days or at least it used to. Anytime I have maintenance injections done its 3 days stall rest then back to work per my vet. If it's a new discovery we inject and 5 days off with Bute usually bc they are sore. I keep up with my injection and try not to let them get sore before I take them in. Most people don't realize that the actual injection only stays in joint for 60ish days which is why I use Pentosan in conjunction bc it helps extend the efficacy as well as repairative. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I use to get my knee injected and I would put ice on it for a few days and would do light walking and on the third day I would go back to walking 45 minutes a day and it worked great so I figure it would be good for horses also. |

 You get what you give

Location: Texas | For hocks, at minimum give 2 days rest. Ideally, I like to give them a couple days off, then on day 3 start light work, by day 5 normal work, and by day 5-7 I'm OK with running them. Bute or equioxx doesn't hurt either. As long as their turn out is dry they can self exercise but if they are around mud I like to keep them inside just because I don't want to risk an infection even though it was a tiny needle poke.
I'm not super experienced with the BOT or PHT stuff as far as when to use them after injecting. Tried and true ice therapy is good for horses and can be done daily. |
