Location: on my horse | Does anybody have wider barrel stirrups they like? My saddle has 2" stirrups right now but I got to ride a saddle with wider either 3" or 4" stirrups and it felt pretty good.
What are these like to make a run in? Do you feel more or less secure? I've got some pretty arthritic feet so am wondering if more stirrup under there would help. When I ride five or six horses a day my feet are bothering me bad by the end of it between walking around and actual saddle time, lately I've been riding a lot without stirrups. |

| Very much personal preference. I personally don't care for them, but I like to be able to put my weight in my heels and the wider tread makes that tough for me. I don't even like to rope in wider stirrups.
But I know some who love them. Worst case scenario you buy a pair, don't like them and sell them. Good quality ones will hold their value. |

Location: Georgia | I like my 3" stirrups. Helps me keep from loosing them during a run. I do prefer my nettles over my SA walls because they are lighter that the walls. Those Walls hurt if they hit you in the shin! |

| I love the wider stirrups. I bury my feet and the narrow ones kill me. I ride in a pair of the original crooked roping stirrups. I've never lost them during a run, and they make my knees and ankles hurt a lot less. They're smooth metal though, so I had my husband put some of the stick-on sandpaper stuff on them, and they work great. I've never been more comfortable riding. |

I second this. I have the original crooked barrel racing stirrups (four pair actually) and I absolutely love them!!! Cannot stand to ride in anything else now. I have better balance since they are wider. I have the rawhide ones and the regular metal ones. I don't lose them unless I try to lift a leg. |
