Hey guys. This will be my first year at the NFR and first trip to Vegas. What are some packing must haves, tips, etc? What do you wear? What's the weather like?

When we went the days were comfortable but the evenings got pretty chilly.  That desert air sure doesn't hold any heat!

I laugh every year at the NFR. These girls show up wearing almost nothing, then freeze during the entire performance. Take a jacket, especially if you plan to stand in line waiting for the shuttle to or from your hotel.

Yes, take a jacket to the performance, it's a bit chilly inside as well. Bring comfortable shoes to walk around in, so much shopping to do lots of walking!!

Both times I have went it has been quite chilly, even during the day.  However, you can get pretty warm walking around/shopping, so I recommend the warmest light layer you can manage (think fleece instead of jacket).  You don't want to have to carry something heavy around.  Definitely wear comfortable shoes - you will be walking miles!

Cabs/Uber and food adds up quickly, so increase your budget for that.

I always like to have something that I'm looking to purchase.  The shopping can be overwhelming!  Soooo many vendors.

Be prepared for smoke in all of the hotels.  I don't smoke or have any friends that do, so I kinda forget that smoking is still a thing.

What hotel you staying at? We always stay on the strip. One of the best tips besides wearing comfortable shoes is to go buy a case of bottled water to keep in your room. There is a Walgreens or CVS ( always forget which one it is) on the strip down close to the Venetian which is where we buy ours. I also take granola bars and other snacks because I sometimes forget to eat while out shopping and gambling. Depending on how long you are there buy a monorail pass for multiple days. We use it to go to the shopping venues and different casinos. Oh and have s wonderful time!!!

Where are you staying? We are staying at New York New York.
Plan on taking in the live feed at the MGM. They always have a HUGE ballroom set up, with multiple big screens, & a cash bar, if you want drinks.
Bring super comfy shoes because you do A LOT of walking around all the tradeshows. It will take you a full day to get through Cowboy Christmas at the Convention Center and you can take in Country Christmas at the Sands in about a half day. Don't miss out on the shopping experience at Mandalay and the one down at South Pointe is awesome too. Don't dress to warm....unless you want to sweat your hindend off. The tradeshows, especially the one at the Convention Center, are packed and it gets HOT HOT HOT in there. I tend to pack a light jacket for at night, and I wear jeans, tennis shoes, or my comfy tall boots (not cowboy) to the tradeshows. Whatever you do pack light so you can take home lots of "treasures." We also take the light rail for most of our excursions, or we walk. Once in a while we'll take a cab. Plan on about $15-20 minimum per trip.
The whole shopping experience is super overwhelming. I LOVE to shop, so the first year I went with my sister, I walked into the convention center and literally burst into tears. It was like a cowgirl's dream come true. LOL

Last year was my first year - few things I learned. UBER - 10x cheaper than a taxi and fast. I pakced a day outfit and a night outfit for each day and never had to think about clothes/what to wear while I was there which was convenient lol.  You need a jacket if you hang out outside but inside it is comfortable everythwere I was at. I wore nylons with a romper one night and was chilly outside but fine inside - pants/leggings/jeans the other days and nights and was very comfortable. Weather when I went was clear skies - chilly at night and nice 70s during the day. We are heading back this year for double the time so excited but the packing process will be much more significant! lol Have fun =) It is amazing.

The all in barrel racing is at the Orleans this year, so I am not sure there is free transit from the strip to the Orleans.

I rent a car, and stay off the strip, the hotels off the strip are cheaper. I also go to wallmart the first day and load up on snacks and water.

Valet parking is getting expensive as well so be prepared to pay 10-15 to park at a hotel.

Going to the rodeo, stay at a hotel that has a shuttle or you will be waiting forever for a cab leaving the Thomas and mac.

I am from the great white north and I freeze once the sun is down, I take a down filled jacket for the rodeo.

Remember going to the rodeo now, no purses, bags, etc unless they are see through.

I made the mistake the first time I went, I didnt bring any comfy shoes along with me! wowwww did my feet hurt at the end of the day! even in my cowboy boots I thought were comfy!

you defiantly need a jackets for the evening!

if you plan on having a few drinks! I will say the oxygen bars are a lifesaver haha for the next morning!

shuttles are defiantly the best idea if your going to the rodeo!

the shopping is absolutely amazing! some friends of mine, only brought a small carry on bag and bought all of there outfits while they were there and bought a suitcase for the way home!

as for the new purse rule, is it only at the rodeo? or is it at all of the shopping vendors as well?
