A flatter backed horse IMO, getting the right gullet measurement is important. The crown c and the fx3 have the same trees. I don't have experience in other Martin models.
There are 2 seat styles in the crown c I've been told. I want to say 2015 was the year they redesigned the seat so pay attention to that if you liked the new one you sat in. I was always thrown forward and a lot of people complained about that. Supposedly the new seat design fixed that, but I've never ridden in one to know.
I sat in a Martin BTR at the Bonus Race Finals last weekend, really liked the way that felt.
I disagree with a flatter back comment.
The regular crown c tree I find the horse needs to have a good wither or the saddle will rock.
The special order flat tree fits a flat backed horse.
With crown c the best thing to do is get your horse sized for the gullet especially for the 2014 and older trees. The tree was designed to sit farther back.
The 2015 and newer seats are different, I sent mine back twice to get them to fix the seat as they did not advertise they switched when I bought mine. I was always blown out the back of my saddle, and I am a forward rider.
The crown c and fx3 are way different for the rider. The fx3 you sit on your pockets, the crown c 2014 and older you sit on your crotch. The 2015 your inbetween.
