Someone told me there is an IMPLANT????? Goes n neck???
Heard of this?????
What about progesterone shot????
Implant the Marble????
I am not gonna breed her, need her to run.....
Good luck with all of that. I went through this with two mares and NOTHING worked, including a double dose of Regumate daily. The one thing I couldn't get done was getting them bred and yours has already been through that.
Both of these mares had severe pain issues from retained, multiple follicles. I ended up spaying them both (about 15 years apart). Was the best thing I could do for their pain but it will NOT help crabby mare syndrome! The first mare was still crabby and would come in to heat anytime she met a new horse! But the pain was gone and she became the most honest, grittiest horse I have ever had the privilege to own/ride. I spayed her at 8 and buried her last year at age 30.
Warning...the implants may help her for maybe a season but will likely become ineffective after that and her problems will come back WORSE.
Seriously...good luck!
Edited to add...things I tried. Note. the first mare came to me having already had implants, however I did not discover that until way down the road.
Implants
Herbs
Regumate
Progesterone shots
Shots to make her ovulate, the vet would come back 3 days later and gently massage follicles off. Worked great for a couple of weeks then had to repeat the whole thing over the next heat cycle.
Accupunture
Breeding attempts
Double dose Regumate
A combo hormone shot weekly that that was recommended by Rood and Riddle
Marble
I am sure that I left something out. It can be a VERY frustrating process.

Headed home from vet
He ultrasounded Rummy good news no cysts on ovaries, and she has ovulated
So straight regumate for her for 100 days then a 30 day break then back on.....

Interested in why you would need 30 days off regumate and not just keep the horse on it? My vet has me keep mine on it from February to December 1. Then off Dec/Jan. Just curious thanks! |

What 30 day shot is this? I just gave my mare a 12 day Altrenogest shot. |

Thanks for the explanation. My vet has me start my mare in February BEFORE she EVER has a heat cycle. SHe has tiny minny ones every month but its like a little pacing etc. Nobody would ever notice but me.. Before she would Bump and grind on anything she could get her hips on. |

The 30 day shot is also manufactured by BET Pharm but has to be shipped overnight. It's more economical to do the 12 day shot. |

Because if you keep them on it all spring, summer, and fall and never let them cycle it can come back to bite you in the butt if you ever go to breed her. ALOT of reproductive problems in mares are due to hormone therapies. |

I just ordered my first bottle... I'm past the child hearing ago, so if I accidentally get some on me or my man gets some on him we will be ok, right? It can abort if you are pregnant, correct? |

| I'm in the same boat as you. This was a great question. My vet suggested Regu-Mate but said I could stop in the Fall. My question is what happens if you miss a day? Also when I stop in the Fall will she be in pain? I am also new with this because this is the first season she has been a ragin fluzzie!!! She is such a sweet and trying lil gal and I don't want her to be in pain and I would like a little calm around the place. |
