Should it be gradual, mixing the 2 for a while or is it safe to stop one & switch right over?
She's currently taking preventative joint care & a hoof supplement (same brand, separate supplements), but my mare has totally stopped eating them. She'll leave all the powder & a handful of pellets in the bottom of her bucket. She doesn't even get excited about coming to eat anymore, (I had to switch her to L/S pellets from a textured feed that was mostly just a carrier for her supplements). That was about 3 months ago. She ate it fine for a while but is losing interest and WILL NOT eat her current supplements if she can help it. I have been advised to use an oil or something to help it stick and I will if necessary, but if it's as simple as changing to a different supplement with a flavor she likes better that's easy too (the one I'm switching to is all in 1, joint, hoof, the whole shebang).

You should be fine switching, but you can just wet the feed with water and mix. If you change I would stop for a week then do the loading doses, if they have one.

I'm probably odd man out, but anything we do with the horses as far as feed or supplements, we do a gradual switch.

You can mix a little apple sauce with the supplement to help it stick together. Works very well.

I'd rather be safe than sorry. I always do a gradual switch for anything that my horses are ingesting.

Thanks! I didn't think of applesauce that's a great idea! I'm still switching because it's 1 formula with both benefits still, but if there's another issue I'll try the plain applesauce. May do it anyways to help her not hate me for switching her to low starch pellets. Lol

I think it's really up to you - if the 2 formulas contain a lot of the same ingredients I wouldn't worry about it. We go from zero supplement to a "loading dose" that is usually 2x's or more of a maintenance dose without any introduction period.

I wouldn't mix the two supplements, if I felt the need to do anything other than just make the switch it would be to do no supplmemt for 5-7 days and then start the new one.
