| My trainer has a stallion by Onthewingsofglory out of a daughter of of Hot Colours. His momma often was the entire 1D. Trainer said he is going to be better than his momma. His disposition is fantastic and he is so smart. Good looking boy, too.

I've seen a lot of good comments about why people love their MJP horses, but there were a couple that don't care for them. I'm curious about why they don't like them. Is it rider/horse personality clash or something else? I have a MJP grand daughter that I am re-habbing because she was pushed too hard too soon. So I am interested in the negatives as well as the positive experiences people may have.
For me, and for one other person who had one bred almost identical to mine, the MJP just take a LONG LONG time to mature. YES, they are sweet, very athletic, very willing etc. They just don't " Get it" as quickly as you would expect. Like you start them on the pattern when they are 4-5 year olds and they are " Finished" horses when they are 9-10. For me, I would rather move one along a little quicker. They WILL get there, just takes a lot longer than other blood lines.. For race tracks they are great. They simply run in a straight line. Not much to think about there. | |

Thank you. That explains 110% of my mare's issues. She came off the track. But she was repurposed and pushed too fast, now she is 9 and I've just let her be a horse and that seems to have helped tons. I have the time which is fine with me. I'm staying positive that she will come back decent. | |

And i have to say I LOVE HER, i purchased her when she was 6, and she had a difficult start in training for the barrel racing world (got into wrong hands), hince the reason she came up for sale.. but needless to say with hours and patience, she is coming to be a 1D. she is extremely laid back, but has so much reach when you let her work. she is the perfect babysitter for the younger foals, and loves attention. i can only imagine right now, how one would be when brought up from a baby to a racer in the right hands with correct training. shes only 8 so there will be a few years before i breed her, but most defiantly will when i find the right stud.  | |
