I'm needing advice on stallion selection for this mare:

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/shezafirenbully

She's currently in foal to DTF and my first instinct is to breed back the same way but I'm interested in your opinions on going a different direction.

This mare was injured at an early age and therefore has no performance record but has proven herself as a producer. She has crossed exceptionally well with Frenchman's Six Dash and has two foals by him that have done well in the arena. She also has a three year old by ASOF and a coming two year old by Streaking Ta Fame. All of those were foaled with a previous owner- I just bought her a year ago and am trying to decide where to go from here.

I'd post a photo of her but I can't figure out how to condense it. I know you'd like to see conformation to make a better judgement call, but just throw some ideas out there of what you'd like to see in a prospect out of a mare with these genetics.

Am I crazy for considering PYC Paint Your Wagon or Corona Cartel? Go back to DTF? First Moonflash? I'd love to go FG but don't want to deal with the ICSI requirement.

Thanks for any input. I have a limited amount of mares, so want to go big with the few I keep bred.

Keep French Too Fame OFF your list. I booked three mares to him. One is bred. Just kind of hard when the ship semen that has absolutely nothing in it. It was a nightmare is all I will say. I just cut my losses and moved on.

I think Corona Cartel is $40k so yeah, I think that would be crazy! PYC or Ivory James would be my bet. The IJ's I have seen are generally prettier than the PYC's just my opinion.

I'd go with Ivory James over PYC. There is no way you'd ever recoup the cost of the stud fee if you went with Corona Cartel himself. DTF is your safest bet as far as marketability goes since the DTF/Bully cross is extremely proven.

If it were me, First Moonflash. Go and watch videos of some of the ones that ran and won futurities. They ran and walked out of alley like an old kids horse. Everyone that I know that has trained one said they came her gentle and were so easy and good minded. Some are being used in other areas as well and believe it or not they can and will work a cow like a good cutter! They are so dang fast it's scary. I heard that they had dropped his stud fee to pull into the barrel racers market. I don't know if that is true but the price was very attractive.
All the ones that I've seen sold quick and it wasn't but a very few.

I would consider the desired outcome. Do you want to sell them, race them, futurity them or run them yourself? Are you going to sell as race prospects or barrel prospects. That makes a big difference.

A stallion owned by two very professional, experienced and successful
horseman is going to be the most promoted stallion over the next
5 years.

His speed, agility, disposition and soundness has been proven time
and again at the NFR and many pro rodeos with an unbelievable
LTE OVER $500,000!!

His owners are very astute marketing this fabulous stallion to
barrel racers // breeders by keeping his stud fee affordable.
Right now it is $2750 with a discount to 50 early contracts for
$2500...

Meet the new man on the block ...

I believe if you bred this mare to slick you would come out with something just as wide as it is tall! Bully bullions are big stout boogers, and slick is built like a bulldogging horse. Not to mention the bully bullion/designer Red Cross could be a headache in the making. What about Furyofthewind? His colts are starting to show up more and more in the barrel horse world since CSR got their hands on him.

I don't think you can go wrong at all with the DTF cross. I have one too and he is awesome.

I also honestly would avoid the pure racing lines too unless they are really proven in the barrel pen as well. Most of those you mention may actually just be TOO fast for the barrel pen (yes there is such a thing). If you want to go pure race, I too would go Ivory James or maybe Tres Seis. I would breed to the top notch barrel sires. If ICSI is something you don't want to mess with (which means no FWF or FG), then yup DTF is your best bet.

Some others who are super nice and proven producers include Blazin Jet Olena, Eddie Stinson, Frenchmans Fabulous, Shawne Bug Leo, A Smooth Guy, Darkelly, Traffic Guy.

Or maybe go with one who will be gone soon like Judge Cash.

Mulberry Fame or Firewater Canyon or Feel the Sting and Epic Leader are some nice looking and nice bred up and comers too.

If your photos are more than 100kb ...
here is a simple fix...

Put photo on your computer ..
hover cursor over it to determine the size of photo
Use Paint to resize the photo by reducing it by inputting
numbers under 100 and saving them next to original to
determine if you have gone under 100kb which will allow
you to post on BHW ..

Try to produce a photo as close to 100kb as possible so the size
of the photo will be large enough to view.

For instance .. the original photo was 1.31 mb ... to reduce the size
using paint and keep it as large as possible I entered 25 in the
resizing on paint and saved it as a jpg photo ...
and came up with 84.8 kb to post on BHW ...

To rename the photo to save back to computer and to keep track
of my resizing .. I added 25 to the name of the photo ...
here is the example using COUGARS BARBIE DOLL ..

You could go the FG route by breeding to a FG son. I've got several friends who have bred their mares to A Sharp Frenchman (Sharpie's sire) and from what I've seen these colts are NICE! He's obviously not as proven, but around where I'm at the A Sharp Leo and Sharps Bay horses are gold and sell almost instantly. Even for resale you'd definitely find someone who wanted relation to Sharpie. There's several FG sons I would breed to, I'd like to breed my mare to one in a few years.

Frenchmans Fabulous, A Smooth Guy and Cowboys Cartel could fit the bill (anything really!!)
