Work notifications for retired race stallions?

I used to have a "virtual stable" on Equibase. This week I've gotten two emails letting me know horses in my "barn" had a workout. They were Stay Thirsty and Creative Cause. They have both been retired for years. I know some stallion barns still exercise the studs around the farm but I find it hard to believe they're taking them to a track? I'm just curious more than anything. Maybe there is a racehorse secret I don't know.
Also the tracks don't make sense. Stay Thirsty was at Thistledown and CC was at Los Alamitos. I don't think you're allowed to work horses under false names?
I mean it could just be a glitch but kind of odd.

I was surprised to see Sammy James entered at Ruidoso last weekend, he'd been retired since 2011. He ran 3rd in his race, and he looked good. $20k optional claimer.
Last month we were at the races at Albuquerque and there was a TB running who hadn't raced since 2013, he placed last. The day after there was another TB who hadn't run since 2014, he ran 2nd by a neck.

Didn't Megan Marsh run Sammy James? Or maybe I have that wrong. IDK

She was advertising him at stud last I can recall. The owner for the race was listed as Rockin J East LLC.
