Location: Florida | TV cable came back on this morning, so I a completely up and running. My place looks liike a war zone with all the trees and branches but they are not hurting anything. Drove around them and went to the grocery store. Let's hear it for Publix, they put in huge generators a few years ago so they didn't lose their food and are up and running.
On a side note the store could not take debit cards, cash and credit cards only. The lady in front of me was getting the essentials and was $.97 short. The kid clerking took out his wallet and gave her $1 to pay for her food. Publix takes pride in its customer relations and hires the finest. |

That warms my heart. HEB here in Texas is like that. I try to shop at stores like that, even if sometimes they are a little more expensive, or don't always have everything I am shopping for.
I am glad you got through this storm in good shape. |

Location: Cocoa, Florida | Wish I could get my photo hosting to work to show pics of our barn under water and the damage in town! Thankful it wasn't worse then it was, we didn't loose power until late Sunday/Monday am and it was back on quick! Water turned back on yesterday also!! Many still without both so I was super super lucky! Horses are out on 50 acres which is wet but not as bad as my barn, I've been going out to give them hay and feed in evenings until everything dries up! |

Location: Feeding mosquitos, FL | I am so happy to be back at work this morning! I will sit in my chair and soak up all the A/C and electricity that I can get.
Still no power at my house but my impulse buy generator is earning his purchase price keeping the fridge and the TV running. Between it and the horse trailer for a hot shower, we're doing pretty good. Current power estimate is Sunday.
Spent all day yesterday picking up every stick and limb in Jefferson County that landed in our yard. We'll have the bonfire you can see from the hard road. We got really lucky here. If all I have to pick up is sticks and limbs, I'm fine with that. |

Speaking of Bon fires I just read on Facebook a post by a women complaining about people already burning stuff and that the smoke is going into their open windows and people with asthma can't breathe.....
And other complaints such as restaurants not open or not having a full menu, etc. it's like, okay people, be glad you're alive and have a roof over your head still!
I can't believe how many street lights are still out and how people are running them and not using them as a four way stop like they should, I've almost been hit twice today!!!! |

OMG the whining and complaining. I've had to ban myself from the Facebook for the duration. Between the people saying they're hot and the ones saying the power company for some delusional reason hates them and refuses to turn their lights back on (for real I saw one guy comment that TECO hasn't restored his power because he lives in a poor neighborhood), I couldn't take it. You may be hot, sweaty, and tired of eating raviolis from the can but you're also alive with a hot house to live in. Makes me nuts.
My attitude has tanked today but I'm going to keep that to myself because it could be so much worse than having to schlep the horse trailer to the fire department to fill up on water. Big dang deal. |

Location: In The Land of Cotton | While we made it through, just damage to the pecan crop - I am amazed too at the sorry people who complain that the power company is taking too long. Two linemen in our area (from Arkansas) were hurt and in critical condition.
We have become a society of give me and give me now.
**** people, just be happy you and your family and friends are alive. Sometimes I think natural selection needs to take place more often. |

I heard about that! Praying hard for them. It's easy to forget how truly dangerous that job really can be. |

Location: "...way down south in the Everglades..." | We live in SW Florida where the eye went. Luckily I'm further North than I used to be so it had died off some by the time it got to us. But happy to report all the horses and our home and barn survived. Minor damage, plenty of flooding, etc. But overall quite blessed. |

Swannranch is fine as far as I know, she has been posting on Facebook I think they took on a lot of flooding though. I'm still super wet, so mine are at a friends 25 mins away which sucks but it's dry. I saw one mans barn got the roof ripped off and I believe a few were severely injured, from a tornado. I also saw that some idiots tied horses to the fence during the storm and a bunch of them died, did anyone else see that? It was on Facebook I couldn't even look, the pictures are awful.
Still not many restaurants open and people complaining of a limited menu, how selfish!!! Having trouble finding milk also.
The St. John's is starting to back up and flood now in some places, Jacksonville is really bad, and I heard the Swanee river is over flowing too. Hoping it doesn't down by us but a big possibility, the river flows so slow and water is just pumping into it so fast, faster then it can drain! |
