I was feeding an alfalfa pellet and they were doing ok but when I switched to the hayrite cubes they all really bloomed. I wouldn't touch alfalfa unless it's coming from the western drier states. I worked for the ranch that owned Colonel Freckles when he ingested blister beetles. It was a truly horrific death. That hay came from Kansas. They can still get the beetles in pellets and cubes so make sure you know where that alfalfa was processed from. I didn't know that about CF. . . Yep it was a sad day. Luckily Boon Bar was on the other end of the barn and he didn't get any. Two other young studs lost too.

I knew Smart Little Lena had to fight for his live from blister beetles when he was young, but had no idea about CF. How old was he? Such a shame

Location: west of East Texas | I've been feeding Renew Gold for about a year and a half. My horses are turned out except during feeding time. They are all fat and happy as far as I can tell. The one thing that I am beginning to ponder though... their hair and hooves are not doing all that well. The tails are all thinning and are about six inches shorter than they were 2 summers ago. The barefoot horses have more hoof chipping, the shod horses lose more shoes than they used to. My farrier had me start using Hoof Dressing on the competition horses. Has anyone else noticed this with their horses? |

I think he was 14 or 15. It was in 1986 and he won the 1976 NCHA futurity. He was in his prime. Was in awesome condition before it happened. Such a senseless loss. |

When feeding Renew Gold, how much alfalfa are you feeding?
If your grass hay or pasture is pretty good, and your horses teeth are no issue, two or three pounds of alfalfa morning and night can really change the efficiency of the hind gut and how that grass hay is digested.

One of mine hooves chip bad, hard to keep shoes on, he also gets lots of alfalfa which I have always thought was good for hooves. My other horses look great, my newest one's mane and tail has grown 6 inches since I started him on RG. I started giving Kombat Boots to my bad feet horse, curious to see if this helps and points to a deficiency in his diet. I have tried him on other hoof supplements, each for a few months with no improvements. |
