Or if you attend a larger barrel race, sometimes they have vendors set up with saddles. At least if you can find what fits your horse, then you can begin looking for a used one. SmartPak has a saddle trial program on a handful of barrel saddles. I’ve worked with horsesaddleshop.com in the past. Once in a while they run a promo where there is no restocking fee. Of course, usually dealing with new saddles here. I have no friends around here. The barn I board at, no one barrel races. I liked one saddle on Smarkpak but out of my price range.
But you could at least try the saddle anyway, to see if it fits your horse. Then you can always look for a used one in your budget, knowing you can return the new one that is too expensive.
Surely you go to barrel races? Strike up a conversation with the person parked next to you, check out their saddle and ask!! I’m a pretty quiet person myself but if there is one motivator to push me out of my comfort zone, is the sake of my horses!! |

JUST bought a used saddle from them...it was marked down, made an even lower offer and they accepted. More than fair price, feel like I'm getting a steal LOL.
ALSO, they have a 14 day refund policy, and said since the saddle is used, I'm actually able to ride and make a run in it - where with a brand new one you can only sit it on the horse to test fit.

You can find their policies under the saddle warranty link. Yes, they will take a used saddle back. |

try JHA. They are awesome to work with! they are normally at the bigger barrel races i go to here in Ohio and they have always been VERY helpful. Fit my horse and even let me run a couple exhibitions in saddles to make sure we both liked them. They offer new and used! Not sure of their website but its either JHA, or Just Horsin Around tack. Good luck
JHA has a ton of saddles (New and Used). I don't know if they would ship it to you for you to try but I know they let people test ride saddles at barrel races. ** That whole team is pretty awesome and helpful. So if they are at a race near you I'm sure they could help you out.
Their website is jhasaddleandtack.com (They are also active on their FB page https://www.facebook.com/JHAsaddleandtack/ )
Edit: ** I don't know that they let people test ride new saddles but they will let you put it on your horse to see fit.

I hope so too! He was very nice to talk with on the phone! We e-mailed back and forth a bunch, and I sent him pictures, but I know they are pretty busy there. I bought a used Bio Fit Correction pad on Ebay and it helps some! |

Yep!!
On a new one, you can only sit it on your horse to check fit...on a used, you are allowed to ride it a couple times to try it out. Of course if you do return return it, it has to be in the same condition you received it in.
Mine should come in the mail early next week, and I plan to run in it Friday night and base my decision to keep it off my runs on 2 horses. |
