| There are so many types of Jr Cowhorse bits out there. My guy was previously ridden in a Jr Cowhorse, I *think* the chain mouth type?
I don't know much about bits, but he's been super heavy on the forehand. His downward transitions are terrible, just takes the reins out of my hand and throws his head forward. He does like a light bit. What Jr Cowhorse should I try? What is the purpose of the jr cowhorse with the pacifier?

| Sounds more like a teeth issue to me.. If that has been checked, I have ALL of the JR cow horse bits ! LOL I love the chain mouth and the life saver. Chain mouth works awesome with really broke and " Light" in the face horses. The Life saver really works good on a horse thats BENDY. Hope that helps!!! | |

Vet checked his teeth when he was injected about 2 weeks ago, and she said they look great, and will need to be done in the Spring/summer of 2018.
I guess I'm still confused as there are SO many..I think he was in the chain mouth one before.

I'd have teeth checked by a certified equine dentist, then I would go back to foundation. I don't think bits fix all, and I think most horses after having a WELL DONE dental need round pen/foundation work. If my horses can't ride soft in a loose ring snaffle ( I love my dave elliot twisted wire locked snaffle) then they don't get to move into anything else.
edited to add, I DO NOT like a jr. cow horse. I don't think they are well made and I don't like how the feel.

Thank you! I don't expect a bit to be a "fix-all" I was just wondering if a different bit would help. Previous owner also rode him in a snaffle.
What can you tell me about the dave elliot twisted wire locked snaffle?

In my state there are no certified equine dentists that are not vets. THose got shut down real fast.. lol I am also a firm believer you can pick on one to death. I give all of mine a job and those that " Want" to be good barrel horses don't have to be broke like a reiner. Ive seen good willing horses ruined by day after day loping circles or 10k time onlys.. lol

Totally agree, I don't want my horses broke like a reiner, but when I pick up on their face, I don't want to feel resistance either. I am a leg person, I believe my horses will soften in their face, if my feet are driving them from behind. I think resistance in the face is never a good thing regardless of what you are doing with your horse.
