So- I just had a horse pull back and I lost half my ring finger. Anyone competing with missing fingers?

A very good friend of mine lost 1/2 a finger and after a short adjustment period, she is as tough as ever in the barrel pen.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think Brittany Pozzi lost part of her finger? She’s done very well since then! I’m sure after some adjustment you’ll be ok. Hope you heal quickly!

I lost the feeling in my thumb and the next two fingers. I messed several runs up by losing my rein and not being to tell if I had the rein. I wish now I had used the new Booma or something similar. I would lose my rein when I switched hands. Time has helped. Hope you are better soon.

Wow I did not know that about Brittany. That would be an amazing inspiration, as I think she is one of the very best . Thanks for the notes of sympathy. Very scary ordeal. I'm glad I am on the mend

Wishing you the best of luck and quick healing. And smoking runs in the future.

Amberley Snyder runs barrels without the use of her legs, and I know a lot of ropers that continue to rope without thumbs and fingers. Jake Barnes lost part of a thumb during a round at the NFR, went out and found it, had it sewed back on and kept on competing.

Humans are resilient.

Take care of the stump! Don't compromise and do what the Doc's tell you to do so that you have complete healing.

You can do anything you put your mind to -just make adjustments and go for it.

My love is breaking and starting horses on the pattern. I love breeding my own as well.

I was loading a mare in the trailer and her foal hung up jumping in, right as I was tying her.  Instead of a trip to the stallion station I took a trip to the Hand Specialist. After numerous surgeries and a years time went by I started two colts. (I have since then started several and due to having just my thumb to hold the reins I "make" them a bit stiff to the left.) I kept one of those first colts after my injury and I run him to the left. He's a nice horse that can be a handful and sometimes I really wish I had two to deal with him. But 'eh, we get it done. I have a very good feeling your also going to "get it done".

I don't have anything passed the first knuckle thumb (knuckle closest to the hand) on my left hand. Hasn't bothered me yet. People never notice that I don't have it. Lost it ponying a horse.
