| My horse is 20-21, and the only thing we do extra is give him some flex liquid for his joints. He's an easy keeper, so that isn't a problem. We use him to work cattle, rope, just ride and my husband uses him at the sale barn sometimes. He had only had one serious lameness issue, when a cow hit him in the middle and knocked him out of line. A trip to a good chiropractor fixed that, and we stretch him before we ride. He is running as good or better than he was at 7 or 8, but he's pretty laid back and not much gets him excited. We don't use supplements, and the only thing extra besides his feed is the flex liquid. |

Location: Illinois | Mine gets Exceed 6-Way and no different on the feed. He's 18 now and has some issues, but that keeps his joints good. I mostly just change my exercise habits with him. I don't push him quite as fast when I'm legging him up. I spend a month legging one up after winter and him I let have 5 weeks, sometimes 6 when I can't ride 5 days a week. I used to ride him 6 days a week 1.5 hours, but now I ride more like 4 days and 1 hour. Plus I have others to ride now so that takes up some of my time. |

| My old guy is 23. He's on Purina Equine Senior Active and THE Muscle Mass (or at least if I can get him to keep eating it!) with Mostly Alfalfa with a little grass.
I'm an equine massage therapist and do body balancing, so that keeps him in tune. I finally found a great farrier, so he's not getting sore.
I did retire him last year to my mom. She is lighter in weight and doesn't push him as hard. But other than that, I can step on him and get the same old run I've always gotten out of him. |

| Ours is 22 this year and she gets good hay, renew gold, and cetyl m. Just this year she started to run from us when we went to catch her. That was a sign, to us, that she didn't want to go anymore. Now she's a trail pony and seems to love it! |

Very true.
I've tried to cut mine back a little. He paws the panels in the barn, the walls, etc until you ride him. Ok buddy, your decision! LOL. He doesn't want to quit! Pouts when he's rode last. He's a bit of an odd duck.
I'm waiting for the day for him to tell me no. It's going to be a sad day I think because when he does that, I have a feeling it will be over shortly. |

Location: NC | I have a 21 year old. Like someone else said hes retired to my mom who still runs him but she lets him do his own thing. He still works for her though. Hes on blue seal sentinel senior and gets cetyl m. (hes in great weight, round and has dapples) We did do an adequan regime at start of season just to keep him feeling good. If you leave him home he will scream and carry on. Dont think hes ready to retire yet. (just yesterday our neighbor mowed our pasture and he was running from him while my 15 yr old looked at him like he had 10 heads |

Location: In my own world | I recently started to ride a 19 yr old gelding that has a ton of rodeo miles on him. I took him to the vet and he has arthritis, no surprise and really to many things to inject. I was told to put him on Cosequin ASU, give bute when I ride (1g). Day of a run I give bute 1g that morning and that night. And to keep him IN SHAPE! I went for a recheck this last Monday. I've been riding him about 10 weeks to get in shape and we went to 2 races. Vet said he has a nice spring to his step, good elasticity and moves relaxed. He was very happy. I use a BOT sheet at shows if it's cool out and a BOT saddle pad liner if it's cool. Other than that IDK lol |
