know a girl, bred a basically nothing mare to FWOTR, got a cute buckskin filly out of the deal. Mare is kind of small with foundation breeding. what would you think would be a good price on this long weanling?? Is this a risk you'd take, given the mare is not much and has never done anything? Obviously I would want it for barrels...

If well put together, well cared for, and price was right, yep I would.

Well, I think FWOTR stud fee is $4500....

I would not spend that yet on the foal. I'd wait to see how it grows out.

That being said, I have a 4yo by him and she's the greatest!!!!!!

As much as I love FWOTR, my question would be why someone would breed an average mare to him at the price of his stud fee?  A smaller, unproven mare?  I would have to wait until colt matured to even consider  purchasing.  Certainly would not purchase as a weanling.

If she's really cute and well put together then yes!

Small foundation bred mare? Heck yeah, that's right up my alley! I'd for sure buy her if she was built how I like and had a nice eye

It would be worth less than the stud fee.

If you are intending to make a true 1D horse out of your purchase, I would keep looking. If you are content with 3D/4D times, then she may be a good buy. I know some "nobody" horses turn out great but they are few and far between compared to starting with a colt with a stacked pedigree.

Several questions/thoughts come to my mind.
What is the "foundation" breeding? There are/were many so called foundation blood lines that have plenty of early speed and quick feet.
I can think of several NFR caliber horses that didn't have "flavor of the moment" pedigrees (Or need a step ladder for the rider to get on with).
"Hasn't done much" doesn't provide much insight. Until a horse has a chance to prove (or fail) as a performer or more importantly a producer we don't know much.
IMO, FWOTR has the large heart gene on his X chromosone from his dam (remember it is sex linked from the female). I base that opinion on his extreme performance. He ran with and out ran the best during his time in the arena-from "crackerjack box" size arenas to standard patterns to Pendleton.
If the theory is correct on the large heart gene, all of his daughters will be at least heterozygous for that gene. If that "X" is the dominate one the offspring from the "unknown" mare, she will have plenty of genetic ability to beat someone. Then it depends on training, rider ability, keeping the horse sound, etc.
