Location: Duvall, WA | I have a mare who is thin soled and tender footed. I tried her barefoot for a bit and made things worse. My vet suggested I get Keretex hoof putty but it is a pain in the @$$! Hard as a rock and I can not get it to soften to put in her hoof. Any suggestions? Any tricks to getting the keretex applied? |

| My husband, who is an equine vet, tells his clients to use Durasole. Itβs a blue liquid that can stain your hands, so use gloves, but it goes on easy and you can use a toothbrush or some similar brush to paint it all over the sole. It toughens them up quickly. We are seeing a lot of thrush and thin soles up here right now, so it has been selling out locally, but you can get it online. |

| Take photos of the soles and frogs of your horses feet ...
Let's see what your farrier has been doing ..
Also, take photos of the exterior front of her front feet to see the growth
rings which tell the story of any sickness, stress/trauma, slight founder or how well
your feeding program is matching your mares overall health for the past year.
Clean out your horses feet and shoot photos in a well lit area..
Thanks!

I have had better luck feeding Circuvate from Biostar, takes a couple weeks to see a difference but I am happy with it so far. |

Β Sadly you bought the wrong stuff. The hoof putty is to be used to fill in smaller areas like drained abscess holes, Horseshoe nail holes or small areas of hoof wall separation to keep them from collecting dirt. It's not for packing tender soled hooves. Get the keratex hoof harder to paint on. Or venice turpentine. If Your horse is real sore I'd actually pack with magic cushion. |

Location: Arizona | You need to get her soles up off the ground. Try putting a slight wedge shoe on, or try pads in her shoes. I agree with the Durasole, it works great to harden the sole. |

Location: Duvall, WA | OK my farrier came and I did buy the wrong stuff. But it was the only Keretex I could find. Anyway, he reset shoes and melted the putty down, put it in her front feet. Hope it helps. If not when it comes out I will try the paint on stuff. For sure I want to try to avoid pads, seems like that won't help her ever get tougher soles.

Location: Pacific Northwest | Durasole and boots. I had to pull shoes on all my horses because my farrier stopped doing horses and then only good person around only does barefoot. My one horse was very thin soled. Until they start growing properly there's not really much you can do but the durasol and boots to keep the horse comfortable. I also really like Magic Cushion as a packing material. |

Location: SW North Dakota | I have two thin soled geldings that are real weenies. I keep a wide web shoe on them in the summer, but also use Gateway Equine's Su-Per Sole Formula. It's awesome (and cheap). Use gloves or your fingers will feel tough and numb in the event of a dribble. |

| I've used Jim Rickens Hoof Care. It really worked well, it's a liquid, I just squirted it from the bottle although it says to paint it on which I found impossible. A small spray bottle would work best. It is a small bottle so a little goes a long way. Messy if you get it on your hands, they'll be stained the color of iodine for a while. You can use it up to 3 times a day, but I only used it twice a day, then once a day for about a week. |

Location: Duvall, WA | Small update: Yesterday was the day after my farrier melted down the hoof putty and applied it. I hated it trying to pick out her feet, but she did seem more comfortable on hard ground. So I will give it a chance. I do think I was supposed to get the paint on stuff to actually toughen the soles, but we will see how this works for now. Thanks all for the advice! |
