Do Blue Valentine/foundation lines cross well on FWF or FG sons? Or would more run be better like a son of ASOF, DTF son or Mr Eye Opener be better?

She is 15.2, big boned and bodied, low hocked, quick and gritty - just not the fastest horse in the barn. (can't get picture to upload).

She won money in the pro circuit in roping and has won money in team penning. A few of her colts have gone on to win in the roping pens also.

Can't answer your Blue Valentine question, but we bred this mare to Firewater Finale. My sister is running her and we love the cross. She's a neat mare with a lot of grit and plenty of run.

I had been told that foundation lines cross well on Sugar Bars (so FWF). Apparently back in the day Leo/Sugar Bars was a magic cross. Not sure if that will work out the same with Blue Valentine..

JMO...FWF needs runs...they are already cowy enough but some lack in speed. Look at the Breeding of some of the most successful FWF and also producing FWF Stallions in the barrel pen. One of my favorites is Firewater Ta Fame.

I agree with Nevertoold, I would add more speed in there versus adding more cow. I have seen some great Blue Valentine/Dash for Cash crosses, so some of his sons or grandsons (or great grandsons) I think would be ideal. Blue Valentines are known for having quick minds (which some people like and others don't), so there are certain hot headed stallions I personally would stay away from.

I have a Blue Valentine mare that is at my parent's place, and if I were to breed her, I would choose a Dash for Cash/Mr Jess Perry bred stallion. The Mr Jess Perrys are known to be a little slower to mature, but I think that would work well crossed with the mind of a Blue Valentine.

Thanks for the info! I have had success with Mr Eye Opener horses, maybe I will breed her to an own son!

That sounds like a great idea! I bet it will be a colorful and super smart, athletic baby!

I agree with this too. My son of Firewater Finale (FWF x Bully Bullion) is out of a daughter of Shoot Yeah. He is not what I would call a free runner. Plenty of gas when you ask for it, but tons of rate and turn. I would be afraid a cowbred cross might lack some top end speed.
