Location: Kansas | So I am finally looking at upgrading horse trailers. I was originally leaning toward no mangers, due to the risk of choke and a horse climbing into the mangers, but I could use the extra storage. Another concern is my horses fitting, they are all over 16 hands and built like tanks.
So what is your opinion on mangers? Does wetting down the hay really good actually help prevent the horse from choking in the mangers, or don't feed them at all? Has anybody had problems with bigger horses keeping their balance due to not being able to put their front legs farther out for support? Would anybody mind sharing the dimensions of their slants, including how wide the mangers are and how far the other wheel well sticks into the trailer?
Thank you! |

We love our mangers, but we don't feed hay in them; we have fed them their supper (grain) one time! We don't haul long distances tho. Two of our horses are 16.3 and about 1300 pounds---we have no problems with them fitting or being comfortable in our 4 horse. I hope if you get mangers that they're as handy for you as they are for us. |

Location: sunny california | my LQ has mangers. I only haul good broke horses in it. it is 8 foot wide so plenty of room even for my big guy. The babies and younger horses only get hauled in the stock trailer |

Location: Kansas | Our trailer has them. My husband loves them (well he loves the storage space underneath). I don't like them. I've ridden in the back of trailers before. Everyone should try it and see what a horse really has to put up with. They can only lower their horses so far and with constant bouncing I'm sure they bump their noses often on these things. |

Location: Not Where I Want to Be | the width of a trailer has nothing to do with how much room your trailer has.
The wider the trailer the less slant the slants have. So a 4h with 10'sw and 7' wide will be longer in total length than an 8' wide of same configuration. But both will have the same length slants. |
