I am looking into insurance for my filly. I'm looking at Kay Cassell, Madden, or Bob Wilkins and Markell at the moment simply based on a google search.
Anyone have any experience with any of these companies or people or other suggestions?

I’ll add a question if you don’t mind to keep information in one place...
I’ve pondered getting additional coverage on mine including possibly colic. However I am an hour to two hours away from a good horse vet and the longer end of that from a surgery center. If I were to have a colic case that required surgery I honestly don’t know if I could ethically put a horse in that state on a trailer for that long - will insurance still pay out? Because I’ve heard you almost always have to put them on the table to get the insurance to pay?

I use Markel- they’ve been good to work with and paid on any claim I’ve submitted promptly...they also answer questions fast!

That’s what i have heard to. So I asked my vet. She said that ultimately it’s up to the vets decision weather a horse in any state can safely travel. She said if you have an extremely painful horse that can’t travel she usually has to write a letter to insurance.

Gotcha...I should also mention I live in an area in desperate need of a good horse vet. I’m not sure our local large animal vet would do more for a colic than give banamine. It sucks.

I use Plains Horizon. I have been getting quotes today to check around, and they are all pretty close price-wise, I have only found one that was less than what I am paying, and the others were all more.

Are you sure you aren't in Southeast Arkansas!!!! We are so in the same boat as you. I had hoped Lula Bell would decide to go to vet school rather than be an anesthesiologist, but I didn't get my wish. It is just pitiful to be in this situation. . . .

We had a very good experience with the Hartford. Horse insurance now.com goes to our rep Thomas Merritt. Very thorough and takes the time to answer all your questions.

I have used Markel for the last 5 years. I have had a major medical/surgical claim that required stem cell, they covered it. I also had a very unfortunate incident recently with a 2 year old that had to be euthanized because of a horrible bone cyst. They covered it, with very little hassle. I have heard from the vets that Markel is sometimes hard to deal with from the vet hospital side, but I have personally had good luck with them and will continue to insure mine through them.

Johne Dobbs Equine Insurance is who I'd recommend based on experience. They paid my major medical claims fast and did not ask any questions. They were also all horse people and knew their stuff! www.dobbsequineins.com
