Owner of a ratting catting machine Posts: 2258	If you just can’t get it to come clean, you can get Fanciful Grey Hair Rinse from a beauty supply in different shades of grey, silver and white. It’s just washable hair dye. Does a good job hiding yellow or pink staining, washes out and easy to use.

Purple neutralizes yellow which is why it's the shampoo color of choice for blondes as it removes the brassiness. Ketchup works because the vinegar and citric acid opens the cuticles and removes the deposited stain color. It's more drying and damaging then using shampoo and conditioner. The best way I've found is to wash the lower part of the tail with a clarifying shampoo, then use an Equine Purple Shampoo (I like Quick Silver) and saturate all the hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes or so (continue to check the hair as some hair absorbs color faster and you don't want a purple tail) and rinse in cool water. Follow with a purple conditioner. Remember a wet tail will likely look more yellow then it will dry.

Not sure what it is that's in it but it works, I use it if I'm out of blue shampoo. A lady once told me about it when I asked her how she kept her horses tail so pretty and white. But it takes a whole bottle to saturate and soak a thick tail.... Wow - that's neat! I had never heard that! I used to use a shampoo from Farnum, I believe, named Wonder Blue - it smelled SO good!

I know your science is correct a d I've only tried the ketchup trick once & I did use a regular conditioner after but it seemed way less drying than the bluing shampoo to me. I wish I would have take before pictures
