Powdered Supplements - How To Feed?
Location: midwest mama
Some of the supplements I feed are powdered and I need some suggestions on how better to feed them. Right now I mix them with some "all-in-one"
(which is ground up alfalfa meal/molasses
) so they will stick but I would prefer to stay away from the molasses. I don't feed grain - just a pound of alfalfa pellets with the supplements.
Anyone have any other good techniques to feed powdered supplements?

Ditto. Even if you didnβt want to soak all the pellets, soak a cup or 2 and mix the powder in. If theyβre strongly flavored you might try a squirt of healthy coat or DAC oil and mixing that way.

Yes soaking is the very best way and a great way to hide the ones that have a strong smell-joint and lung ones seem to be the smelliest. Even if you just wet it a little, some horses don't like the soupy mush.

Mine all get DAC oil with theirs. Sticks right to it and covers up any scent. Plus they loooove the DAC

I use Healthy Coat with my feed and powder supplements. My horses love it so they eat the powder no problem.
