| Anyone? My mare was diagnosed last summer at the young age of 4, and we're racking our brain trying to figure out why she is so choppy in her turns around a barrel and I can't help but think it's the KS. A few vets have recommended Osphos to help...but would I be better off just doing the surgery?? |

| This won’t help you, but our vet did a little clinic this weekend. He stated that vets were starting to recommend Osphos for KS. I’m interested to see if anyone has any first hand experience! |

Location: Claremore, OK | You haven’t done X-rays to confirm Kissing Spine ?
Choppy turns really sound more like Hocks, feet or stifles.
If it is KS, it would depend how many vertebrae are involved.
I would want a more direct approach for treatment like a cortisone injection or possible surgery. |

| Yes I’ve done X-rays that’s how I know she has it. We’ve done the injections but like I said - a vet recommended Osphos so I wanted others opinions before I jump into surgery. |

Location: horseback looking for cows | Had x-rays to confirm kissing spine in my 15 year old gelding that was having a gate issue. We went the osphos route and there was literally NO MORE tenderness after just a couple of days. I did let him just rest after injections. There has been no tenderness so far and his injection was in May of 2017. He will get another dose Im sure when symptoms return. Works amazing on him. |

| Hi all, I've never posted here before and I've only just made an account to reply to this thread! I have a 12yo mare who was diagnosed with KS as a 4yo.. She is an Irish thoroughbred bred for polocrosse and is very short backed and all the usual KS problems. I've been able to play her at top level international level polocrosse on just the cortizone injections every year right up until yesterday. I found she was much sorer to bring into work this year and yesterday we headed down to get the injections. Took another x-ray and found it is a fair bit worse than last year, usually she only needs 3 injections and she needed 5 yesterday. My vet suggested the OsPhos treatment and said they have had fantastic results with it for the KS so far, so I went for it.
I suppose this isn't much help to you more just an experience but when I look back on it, as a 4yo knowing she had serious potential I would've gone for the op. 8 years of back and forth for injections up to 3 times in a season is a nightmare and can get very costly. The op wasn't really available back when I was there but I know if horses who've had it done recently with fantastic results.
I'll keep you up to date on the OsPhos treatment and how it's working! |

Thank you for coming on here. In my experience researching things, most recently wobblers, the sporthorse world's experience is above and beyond in many treatments/therapies and diagnostics. I think a lot is the level of training those horses require. Whether it is TB race horses or eventing & polo, the vets have so much more experience with some of these issues that are fairly new to the arena horses.
I hope the OsPhos works for your horse and the OP as well. |
