Location: my piece of paradise | Anyone ever have a gelding that could give a mare a run for their money in the attitude department. My gelding is mean as a snake. Sweet to people but hates other horses. We put him in his own pasture and he is happy as can be by himself. In the warm up pen if a horse is coming the opposite direction, those ears go back and the teeth come out! You can stand him next to other horses and he ties fine next to them. I have had him checked to see if he was proud cut. Lab results came back negative. Vet also thought maybe his adrenal glands were producing some excess testosterone?? Have done the progesterone shot every 2 weeks and haven't seen any difference after 8 months. Im guessing maybe he is just an ill pill with some grit. He sure is a heck of a barrel horse and will work a hole in the ground, and that is why I put up with it.
Anyone ever had one like this, or the adrenal gland issue?
Please no negative comments, he is under full control and is not a danger to himself or others for that matter. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | I have a gelding. He is just nasty to other horses, particularly if mares are around. Sweet with people, nice riding horse. But put him in a pasture with another horse and he will back them in a corner and double barrel the **** out of them repeatedly. Honestly seems like you know your boy's quirks and how to deal with him (i.e. don't put him out with other horses). So long as you have the facilities and are willing to deal with him, I wouldn't worry too much about it. |

Yes he sounds pretty similar to yours. Sweet towards people and great to ride. He doesn't care if he has a buddy or not. (Fine by me) Maybe he is just antisocial lol |

Location: Texas | I have one that I bred, raised and trained and then sold as a three year old that was a big sweetheart when he left. I ended up buying him back as a coming six year old and he was SO naughty. When I first turned him out with the horses he was raised with I thought he was going to kill the one! He even acted studdy, even though I know for a fact that he was fully gelded and the other horses were all geldings. He was herd sour so he had to stand tied to the patiance tree for a while to get over that. I put him on Silver Lining Herbs Stallion Fertility for about a month. Now he is like a different horses. Don't know if it was the herbs or just time figuring out the pecking order. But he's not herd sour anymore and everyone is turned out together. No more issues. |
