I am moving my cat into an apartment and we need a REALLY good litterbox option. Does anyone have the self cleaning kind, or CatGenie? Are they worth it?

We had a Littermaid but you had to buy special containers for.  When it died I bought a 3 piece litter system from Walmart that has 2 like trays and 1 that has holes to sift the clumped litter. You sift the litter every day.  It works pretty well but the trick is to put lots of litter in the tray.  Finally I started just dipping the clumped litter every day with a cat litter scoop thing and it works just fine.  The most important thing is to put a lot of litter in the tray.

It was years ago, but I had the self-cleaning kind - was not impressed, maybe they are better now. Now, I used litter sifting bags and they seem to work pretty well. Cat boxes just flat SUCK no matter what! I'd rather clean 10 stalls than a nasty cat box!

I had one a couple of years ago, I did not think it was any better than a regular litter box.   I bought 2 of these and love them, I clean it every couple of days.  I paid around  $35 dollars for mine I sale.

These are the best ever!!! No nasty cat litter everywhere. I've had indoor cats my whole life. I wish I would have found these years ago.

I have a Scoop Free with a forever permanent tray.  It uses crystals.  I replace the crystals every 3 weeks.  Other than that, it is maintenance free.

When you feed your cat the top of the line cat food you'll find most of the time that you'll have a much cleaner litterbox.  Our barn cats get the Friskies, our house cat gets the Science Diet.  We have to keep our barn cats in the tack room at night to keep them warm, thus a barn litter box.  What a difference.  Barn cat litterbox is nasty.  House cat litterbox whole different story.

I was looking at this one, the reviews were really hit or miss though. How long have you had yours?

My litterbox situation honestly isn't that bad to begin with, but my fiance is allergic and is having to take care of the cat for three months by himself, so I'm trying to make things as easy as possible on him!! Thank you (:
