I've never ridden in one. I like the idea of them, but for those of us that don't have twig legs, is there any benefit to a bear trap? Can you hook your leg underneath and not bruise your leg up?

My first barrel saddle was a bear trap and I loves it!! Only sold it because I couldn't fit in a 14 inch when gained weight in highschool. I say if you get your correct seat with it, which may be half an inch bigger or not, depending on your thighs, then it's something that I wouldn't say no to.

You need room to get your legs forward, most have 5 or 6β cantles as well so you need an extra inch room for your thighs and butt at least . They really put you in a safe
position for turns . In the 70/80s when I started you had 2 styles , Martha Josey flat seat w 3β cantle , and bear trap or not w high cantle June Beth Powells
( very comfy
) You stay put in the bucket seat style and donβt fall sideways or forward or bounce out. Gerald Bethunes with bear trap and suede seat is very comfy and great quality.
