What is your strategy to bet on horses at the track? Do you study the statistics of the horse, trainer, jockey, or odds? We spent a day at the Hot Springs track last week and I used my tried and true strategy ....... I bet "by name" of the horse ..... LOL
My results ....
I didn't bet the first race ....
2nd - winner;
3rd - winner;
4th (only race that I bet on two) - winner & 3rd; ...
5th ....BUMMER ..... my pick ran 4th;
6th - winner;
7th - my horse named Gettin Even .... got even and just about ran at the back of the pack ....LOL
8th - 2nd;
9th - nada ......
Unfortunately, I don't bet big bucks and just bet to show .....overall, I made a few $$s .....

For the Quarter Horses I go off of pedigree....Usually always go with MJP or PYC horses. I always seem to win on them :)

For the Thoroughbreds I go off of Jockey/Trainer and then I stay away from the favorite and pick someone whos odds will still payout good.

 I would go on how the horse was built, how much power the hind end looked to hold and how long the under belly is. And on who the trainer was.. I didnt win much cause I didnt do much betting but did pick out some nice horses when I did go watch.

ALWAYS bet the grey horse taped in the back.
if no grey or taped on all 4's go with the best name.

I bet the program trainers b/c chance are the real trainers got banned bc they know the good stuff <------clenbuterol

Sorry I just couldn't resist with all the talk going on in QH racing right now

I don't normally bet but if I ever do it's because I think the horse will win even tho the odds are against them meaning I only bet if the odds show me winning a lot on a cheap bet.

Same. I hardly ever bet on races but it's an occasional mom/daughter thing I get together with my mother. If I can get a good look at the horse out on the track before they race..all the better. I also look at the names/pedigree.

My dad's method was to bet on the one that poops before the race. I kid you not. He figured that one could run faster now

In the first race, there was a "rank" one....he bucked the jockey off three times just coming out on the track. Then on the 4th time, the jockey slid off over his butt and the horse stepped on him....stewards booted that horse ..... LOL
