| I only know a little about this.
It's good for swelling
It carries into the bloodstream - not sure if I'm wording that right.
and it tastes like garlic.
What portions do you dilute DMSO if you have a horse super sensitive to it? Vet told me to use it when my gelding had super sore hocks from fusing. Needless to say I can now finally put absorbine on his hocks without getting him into a panic attack.
Should I even bother attempting to try and use the DMSO again, even diluted and use something else instead?
Or any knowledge of DMSO works for me. Thanks!

| oh gosh, even reading this makes me sick....I am extremely allergic to it, I can't even be in the same area where it has been used! Makes me faint and once I even went into a mini seizure... ughhhh

Then don't read it. I don't want you fainting on us! So what do you use as an alternative? I know there's a favorite liniment thread but this stuff is like a mystery to me lol |

| You have to be careful using it. Wear gloves. It works but it's a pain, IMO.
If you're not comfortable or your horse is not comfortable using it, then don't. You have A LOT of other choices. I have used many things and am stuck on DRAWitOUT. It's great. No mess, color or odor. It's safe. You don't have to wash it off. It won't blister if you wrap. DM if you need more info! |

| DMSO alone is not going to do much of anything...you can put it in one's water to relieve body pain but be aware they will smell very strongly of it for awhile and so will their urine/stall

IMO it does not do enough by itself topically to warrant the hassle of using it. There are better options to relieve your horse's hocks than topical DMSO. Here at the equine clinic I work at we use it in IV fluids, and I see a difference with it (anti-inflam properties) in post surgeries & dummy foals. But other than using it as a sweat where its mixed with furacin or something of that nature, I don't find it very useful topically.
That said, I have never had luck with things like surpass either. Honestly, the only thing I have seen real change with topically are my BOT boots & my PHT boots. Otherwise, for fusing hocks your best bet is to inject steroids and just get him through it. Maybe previcox if it's really kicking his butt. |

At home, I use it to sweat legs. That’s about it. The stuff is nasty. I’m lucky enough to have never seen a reaction from it topically but I mixed it with liniment years ago and got it on my arms and nope. Lol. I will never do that to a horse again. My arms got RED and HOT. |

Location: WYOMING | Ive used it topically on my lower back disc issue. I went from pain to no pain. Im a big believer. I use it on hocks, stifles, backs whatever seems sore.
