I am looking into sending my 3yo to someone to polish him off a little. The colt is broke, and I trust him, he's just a little lazy. I have a good foundation on him. He understands breaking at the poll, hes got a decent stop, understands moving his forehand & hind quarters etc. I just want someone to make him a little lighter, and if at all possible just a little snappier.

OR...

Do you guys have any ideas for me to try to polish him up a bit? Rollbacks on the fence help him to roll over his hocks and "get out" a little faster, but its still kind of pathetic lol. I am good about pressure and release to soften one, this colt just doesn't have a concern in the world, so he doesn't really get in a hurry lol. He's got a big motor, and I can ask him to move out and come back to me, but he could care less about really trying to pick himself up and move over quickly.

He's also 3yo, 15.2 & an easy 1100lbs with tree trunks for legs. Looks like a roping horse, but he's Dos Poruno & TB bred....

I sent my ASOF filly to Phil Haugen when she was 2 for 5 months. Amazing job!

He puts them on cattle and really gets one moving without scaring the horse

Russell Littlefield is in Purcell. He shows rope horses and working cowhorses. He’s good at getting one more broke/polished.

Audra Masterson and Bill Fleming at 915 Ranch in Stratford. Won't send my colts to anyone else. They take exceptional care of your horse and expose them to much more than just an arena and round pen.

Also, if you live in OK and haven't treated him for EPM I would.   My colt was lazy and heavy footed when he was started.....treated for 30 days and he's light and snappy!

Even if he’s been like this his whole life?

I would never treat a horse for epm unless a qualified vet said the horse needed to be treated. The epm meds are so hard on a horse. I have a 4 yr old that can be lazy. Trust me, he sure doesn't have epm.

I have been thinking about that comment since it was posted. Wondering if my horse should be tested for EPM because she was in OK.  She is very lazy, but man oh man can she buck when she wants too.  I think I'll have her tested just in case.

I am in okla. Slyder doesn't have epm. Just because a horse is in Okla doesn't mean it has epm. Epm is in many different states. Have your horse checked before giving him a medicine he might not need

You're describing my colt to a T. She is super handy and sure footed but kind of dull in her que's. She doesn't get bothered by much which is a blessing but she also isn't "snappy" yet. I wouldn't be jumping on the epm bandwagon do to that alone. I think that comes with time, I am doing a lot of transitions with her and really asking for collection. I think she will get better with time like everything else. When I first started riding her she wouldn't move off my leg to save my soul and now she does it beautifully. Just takes time.
