Kind of depends on where itβs coming from and going to. All 3 major shippers - USPS, FedEx, and UPS have simple to use online calculators if you know your boxes weight and dimensions.
UPSβ insurance is quite a bit cheaper than USPS, that was my deciding factor in the one I shipped last week. FedEx is not close to me so I canβt comment.

Ups quoted me 140 to 160. That seemed ridiculous. I went to a mailing center. Wonder if it's higher than going directly yo ups

You can get on UPS.com and double check their numbers to figure it out. I just shipped one from Iowa to Texas last week with $2600 worth of insurance for $85. USPSβs online calculator was telling me insurance alone would have been more than that.

I recently shipped from WA to, I think, OK. It cost with insurance like $140. That was UPS. USPS was going to be even more. Granted it may have been a little more also because it was a $3K saddle
(for insurance purposes
) and weighed with the box 40 lbs.

I just shipped a saddle from CA to PA with 2 day shipping and $1000 in insurance for $107 with USPS. I had the box cut to fit the saddle and it was a Reinsman saddle
(not too heavy
).

If you have a home depot close they have a heavy duty moving box that measures 18x18x24 and has worked well for most Iβve shipped. I really like the saddle to be snug in the box so it doesnβt shift and risk falling off a stack in the truck or the box gets too cumbersome to handle easily.
I couldnβt get to Home Depot with the last one I shipped so I bought 2 single layer boxes that size at Walmart and shoved one inside the other to make it more sturdy. Taped the daylights out of it. Worked well.

I am in Canada..so I use canada post
(which is like upsp
) and it costs about 70$ to ship across the country from ontario to alberta. The trick is to get a correctly sized box that isnt too big
