I'm in a dilemma.
I own two horses and one is a yearling. I have an overnight barrel race that is 3 hours away in 2 weeks and I'm not sure whether to leave him home or to haul him with me....
He obviously doesnt like being alone as my gelding is his buddy.
Half of me wants to take him for the experience & the other half is a little scared to leave him home alone (I know, I know
).

Easiest solution would be to buy another horse!!!
But seriously, what would you do?

No brainer.. buy another horse

But other than that... I would leave him home if someone might be around to check on him :)

He stands pretty darn well at the trailer when he is taken away. But that's only been tried at home. He will whinny for a few minutes then he stands quietly for the most part.

I haul and stall them when they are young....then hope to heck the hauling and stalling isn't such a big deal to them when they are older and I would like them to be focusing on me and not what is going on around them.

Does the race have stalls? If so I think it’s really up to you, if he can be secured in a stalled while you’re riding and overnight, then I think the experience can be good for him.

If stalls aren’t avaialable, I wouldn’t pick and overnight race to haul him to first, I would start with smaller day races.

He's fine at home alone. He usually camps out in the lean to and sulks for a while.
There are stalls provided at the overnight race and he's also been hauled locally before, just not tied to the trailer while I wasnt around.
Its a late evening race & early saturday morning. Id be gone for a total of 20 hours MAX.
I'm such an indecisive person...
