So I have this mare who is 14hh and is very quick catty and smart. She’s bred for the cutting ring or roping arena, but I use her for barrel racing and she does very well(2D-3D). I’m going to breed her once I find a faster horse for college rodeo and I need some advice. I am wanting the foal to be something taller around 15hh and more built; as of right now she built just like a thoroughbred with not much as much muscle as I’d like. What would you reccomend?

this is a 3 yr old filly out of our Leo/Eddie bred mare and a son of Tres Seis.  She's big with muscle :)

Here is a suggestion for you. If you breed your mare in the spring you will have 6 years (from now) before you have a producing barrel horse. If you are not set up for babies there is a possibility that the horse could get hurt. You don't really know what you will get. Breeding is expensive. There are a lot of factors involved. If you buy a 2 or 3 year old , you know what you are getting and you have a three to four year head start.

If you are runnning college rodeo, you better be prepared to run against NFR quality horses. Hailey Kinsel comes to mind. She rode for Texas A & M.

Her breeding is mostly like behavin hickory, doc hickory, freckles assets. Horses like that. I’m going to make sure my facility will be up to date with everything to bring in a foal. Hopefully I’ll have her bees next year and also hopefully I’m going to be buying a college rodeo horse! The mare I’m talking about actually got seriously hurt today and the vet told us she could be out for 3 months at a minimum so she’s not going to be doing anything at all until I know that she’s ok! I will attach a picture of her!??
