I have a semi-hard to fit horse and have been riding in an Ammerman, it fits him and me fairly well though my C3 by Jeff Smith seemed to fit him better, just didn't fit me.

Was looking into trying a Shiloh but my oh my there are tons of different versions. Can anyone tell me the differences? Or which model would fit a sausage link? He's not overly wide, just very straight and round like a sausage lol, a lot of saddles tend to roll on him. Thanks in advance!

We have a 2008 JP contender that we love and fits almost everybody. When we have a round-backed, broad-shouldered, impossible to fit critter, we pull out the 1996 Cecil Phillips. It fits EVERY horse we put it on and is comfortable to ride.

I have had multiple older Cecil Phillips and they seem to be that one size fits most. I just adjust padding and always have solid even sweat patterns. The only horse they didn’t fit was my kissing spine gelding and it made his back sore after surgery so I sold mine but’s ice I no longer have that horse I recently bought a new to me (1997 I believe) as a “colt saddle” well now I ride everything in it bc I love them and how they fit me so much.

I had a JP Contender that rolled on my horse. She isn’t wide, but isn’t too narrow. She has small withers.
I was incredibly sad to have to sell it because it’s my FAVORITE riding saddle.
I had her fitted and was told a KK flex standard would fit. It rolled.
Had her fitted for a JJ and the pozzi pro standard fits her well.
I sure do miss that Shiloh, though. :(

My sausage horse does good in the Jerri Mann.  It's way straighter than the Contender/Finalist or Flying M.  Mine is a 6.75 and fits him ok, I'd like him better in a 7, but can't afford to have another one made and you can't find them used.   My other Shiloh is on a Flying M tree with a Jerri Mann seat--it fits my stout big shouldered horse like a glove but perches and rocks badly on the round sausage horse.  The horse I use this on needs needs some rock and flare, but the Contender was pinchy on him.  This tree is wider (7.25 gullet) and fits perfectly.

Do any of them fit a smaller horse with avg withers and a narrow front end?

Thank you for this info!! Sounds like I need a Jerri Mann, my horse does not need any flare and rock so straight is good, figures that you can't find them used, just my luck!

Love my contender but I think it’s making mine sore. Do the contenders have a lot of flare or whatever to them? She’s pretty stout. I know a buster Welch tree had fit her previously.

Buster Welch only describes the style of the swells, not how it fits a horse so be careful when looking. You can have two different buster Welch trees fit totally opposite.
