| I have a 3 year old who is wide. Already. No withers. Big shoulders. Everything I ride him in is too narrow, and everything rolls. Double j standard or wide didn’t work, I have a cactus Marlene McRae special effx, and it almost worked with a wither cut out pad. I have tried SRS and that was the worst fit. I tried a Martin 7” gullet, that didn’t work. The best fit I found was a Tod Slone rope saddle with the fit 3 tree with the wither cut out pad. But still everything rolls. Not really sure if there’s a way around the rolling since he has no withers, but it certainly makes training a colt hard. I really don’t want to continue to train him in a rope saddle. I do want to try a b3 Tod Slone barrel saddle but haven’t Tracked one down yet. Any other suggestions for wider bars? I don’t believe in the big gullets of martins and hate the feel of those saddles.
Maybe a pad/saddle combo that’s worked for someone? Contemplating going treeless. Just hate how they ride. But if it’s what makes my colt comfortable I don’t really care. Any help? I can’t be the only one that’s going or gone through this lol. |

| I always try them on first without a pad. I have tried them all with a 1/2” liner from a csi, the csi pad as a whole, the team equine with a wither cut out that is about a 1”, and a 3/4 5 Star. |

Location: Central Texas | I have a wide mare with big bulging shoulders and no withers. I finally settled on my Cactus CJ Recordbreaker wide tree AND Thinline pad that I can shim in the dips behind her shoulders. My 5 Star 7/8" pad does not work and the Tod Slone pad works with shims.
Another mare is flat backed and no withers but no dips and the CJ will not work due to the curved bars. I use a Tammy Fischer on her with a Thinline.
Interestingly, I also use a Tod Slone roping/ranch saddle on both of them. One of these days I'm taking horses to the the Slone saddle shop to see what will fit better. |

Location: Northern Ontario | My CJ cactus fit my wide flat mare the best out of the saddles I tried. He is only 3 too, so his Withers haven't really had a chance to develop. He might surprise you and sprout some a bit when he is 5. Saddle fitting 3 year olds sucks! I am in the same boat but with a racey built colt |

Location: Oklahoma | I went through this a year or so ago. Darla Schneider pad and a lynn mckenzie special and would fit perfect, stopped rolling as bad and i didnt have to get him so tight. I had went to a wide and he stopped running because it set to far down on him and his shoulders would hit the saddle. Once i put this combo on him he went right back to running and working perfect.

Location: USA | I'm in the same boat... I was able to try a friends Coats with the Batie tree. The tree has flat bars for a wide flat back horse with low mutton whithered. It worked great on him. no roll and stayed in place. Call Larry ... he is awesome to work with. |

| Saddle right pads are the only pads that I've found that don't roll on the wide ones. |

Location: MN | Ditto to the saddleright pad. I hate playing the saddle fitting game! I have a very low withered, broad shouldered, & very round gelding that I finally just broke down and bought a Bob Marshall for 2 years ago. Best purchase I've ever made. Although, I do miss my treed saddle every once in a while. |

Location: North Dakota | My horse Red is very wide, very typical quarter horse.
A Lisa Lockhart (now called "Badlands") Circle Y Flex2 in the WIDE fits him like an absolute glove, with a 1/2" pad by 5 Star. |

Do you feel like the treeless rolls on your horse at all?
I can’t even really get on him from the ground because as soon as there’s any weight in my stirrup my saddle just rolls right off him.
I will have to try a saddleright pad. |

It rolled like crazy when I used other wool pads. Tried a few different sizes as well with no luck. As soon as I tried a Saddleright, it stopped rolling. Its so frustrating trying to find a combo that works! |

I think I’m going to try the treeless route for now. Atleast until he is done growing. So it looks like I’ll be investing in a saddleright pad |
