transporting horse injured

my newly purchased barrel horse was injured during transport, got a leg hung up & going to reroute & meet the transporter at my vet clinic, I understand that you sign a Bill of Lading with the transporters & I couldn't get insurance on the horse till my vet examed her & now the horse is hurt. Are transporters required to be bonded or do they have to carry a liability insurance of their choice. Can you insist on their insurance company name to file a claim for injury while in their care? Please help in what I need to do next, this horse was a huge investment. Can I contact the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Admin. to file a loss of or damage claim? The transporter is supposed to be a Commercial transport with all the proper regulations for safety of your animal & if this was not met, or a violation was ignored. What documentation do I need to get from the transporter before they leave? PLEASE HELP!

I am not sure on the particulars, but I wouldn’t get to far ahead of yourself. I would wait to see what happened, how bad the injury is etc. I would think the hauler would have to be negligent to be liable. Maybe the horse caused its own injury! If they are reputable hauler they will know what to do.
