I prefer the softer feel of the 5 stars but I dont believe you can go wrong with any of the three.

I use to like 5-Stars and still have some but after a year of use one one them broke down really bad and I needed a new pad so I got another slone. I have another 5-Star that has also aged badly, but two that haven’t. The slones definitely hold up better under hard use in my experience.

5 Star is my favorite by far, I love the contour and I love that you can have them custom with cool wear leathers and have your name or brand put on them, I do have a Tod Slone too .

I switched from 5 star to Saddle right. Yes, they were 350.00 each but pretty much never have to be replaced. I love how thin they are and the protection they offer. I was replacing my five stars every couple years.

5 Star only. They have lasted us - with really hard use - for years. I am surprised the one poster has had theirs wearing poorly - maybe let the company know?

I've never tried the 5 star but I've had several Tod Slone pads and none have ever broken down.

I prefer 5Star for my barrel pad and Tod Slone for my roping pad. I've had a Best Ever as well--they are good pads for the $$, but don't hold up like 5Star and Slone.

Ok so Im curious, what size thickness? I have a 3/4" 5 star now but wondering if I might need a 7/8 for a mare that can get a little back score?

I have two 5-stars and both are the 7/8" thick. I have had one for almost 8yrs and its the pad I ride in every single day, love it!

5 star for high withers or if you just want a "softer" felt pad.
tod slone or best ever are pretty similar for low to average withers. they just don't have enough contour for higher withers. but i think best ever did come out with a "split wither" option for that reason... they are all pretty similar really. but i know my 5 star did last a loooong time especially if you take good care of them!

I use a csi on most all my horses. otherwise i use a team equine.
